The piece that goes through the eye has a hook on it. If it truly is going through the eye, not to either side of the needle, then the hook has likely either bent closed or broken off. This will

If so, the View Embroidery Button is what you need
Click on it and it toggles into it's 2nd function: (it turns yellow to show it's changed)
