Re: Questions about 550e
Thank you Valera. I had been using the lock key when I first got the machine but had fallen out of that practice. Didn’t realize it would move the machine.

Re: Questions about 550e
Thanks for all the hints. Got my machine for Christmas and have not got up the courage to oil it. Guess that will be on today’s agenda. One thing to occupy my time during this stay at home time.

Nancy-
Here is a video by the maker of the "orignal" hump jumper. She shows using it for several different tasks.

Re: Shank high or low?
Maria-
Your machine is a high-shank one. All the Janome machines that can do embroidery are high-shank.

Re: Questions about 550e
The 500e and the 550e machines (and the HD9) are exceptions to the “Do not oil your Janome machine“ rule. If you look at pages 60-64 of the 550e owner’s manual, you will see the oiling

When threading the 500e/550e you should lock the machine. Then lower the foot. Then look in the lock window for the ok. If you don't see it turn the hand wheel.

Re: Questions about 550e
So I’m kind of surprised to hear about “oiling”. I have been told and read countless times that we do not oil our Janome machines. I have a little tube called “Janome cleaner”...which

Now Hump Jumper
Kathy, do you put the hump jumper in front of the foot, like from the front towards the back of the machine?
I have an S9 and have lots of trouble sewing over thick seams, etc.

Re: Questions about 550e
I have encountered the same issue on my 500e with the auto-threader not working if the machine thinks it is too close to the edge of the hoop. This is because these hoops have a lot less space

If you have the foot down and are still having an issue, I have had issues on occasion with the auto threader when the needle is at the edge of the design and real near the hoop. The threader part

Re: Uneven bobbin winding on MC500e , possibly other Janome models
I think this topic needs to be changed. A hump jumper has absolutely nothing related to “uneven bobbin winding on a MC500e”. A 500e would not have a hump jumper because it is an embroidery

If you use the lock button it will move the hoop out if the way so the needle threader can be used.
The janome pre wound bobbins are real bobbins and can be used in janome machines. I wind matching

Re: Questions about 550e
If it’s recommended I would oil where the manual suggests just don’t put too much in, hoping you won’t have to next month. They wouldn’t suggest it if it wasn’t necessary.

Re: Questions about 550e
Beth---Be sure that your machine's foot is in the DOWN position when using the auto threader. I have a feeling that is what is making your threader not useable when near the edge of your design.
