Why don't you just embroider his name on a piece of fabric and hand applique it on the stuffed animal? I'm sure no one is going to complain about that.

I would go with 2 layers of medium weight cutaway layered crisscrossed. they say 1 layer for every 10,000 stitches but if you are using kona cotton (and not a stretch fabric) you should be OK with 2

It happened to me too quite a while back and now I always check that I have it threaded correctly and the thread is at the right angle before I start winding.
I ended up using a small pair of sissors

Thanks so much Barb. I tried this prior to starting up the machine and it seems to have alleviated this issue. So far no other issues. I'm sewing with it the next few days so we'll see. It's so good
