No one can really tell you what you should do - that's up to you and how you learn and what you want to do.
I can tell you though what I would do and what I do with every new machine.

Does Janome take Your Suggestions?
Sarah, since you have an inside track with Janome will you suggest it wouldbe great to have a way to go to a certain stitch, or switch between stitchesother than scrolling through screen after screen.

Footbook app on iPad
Jim, are you going to update the footbook app? I noticed at least one foot missing that we have for the 9mm section and that is the "Clear View Quilting Foot and Guide Set". . Great reference

Newbie Question
I've had my gently used 12000 for several months now, but have barely used it. I do very little - if any - actual sewing, other than what I need to sew in order to quilt. I've done some piecing on

For regular quilting I use the red dot.
If I understand your question about the use of the embroidery thread on topand in the bobbin. Not bobbin thread in the bobbin unless you had a colourto match

Are you using the straight stitch needle plate? The holes are smaller and don’t tend to pull the fabric down in quite asbad.

9mm throat plate query
Since sewing on my mc15000 I have been having a problem with the start & end of my seams being gobbled & bunched by the machine. I did not have this problem to this degree on my former 7mm machines.
