Can you open the JEF+ file in HL Suite and resave as a plain JEF? Trusizer should recognize that and convert, but there's no guarantee that the stitchout will be the same between the two machines.

I realised I could change the thread make layer by layer - but everytime I go into the color tool it defaults to Janome and I keep having to change it to Mettler.

If you are updating you will not put the update into the folders, infact remove those folders from your flash drive. You need a clean drive to update. You only use the folders when you are

I think that has been the issue with most of us. I am not sure why but switching to a different port on your computer will probably correct the issue. I found that someone I helped install switched
