Metallic Thread Spindle
kkrissyb <krissy.b@...>
I have posted pictures of the Thread spindle in a folder called krissy.
There is a name written on the side of the spindle and I googled it and nothing of that name came up. I purchased the spindle from a Viking dealer about six years ago... apparently a clever hubby made this for his wife and when everyone saw it they wanted one so he made quite a few. Kris in Aus

Well that's just a matter of weeks now. I guess we can add it to the "Coming soon" list!

Re: Homebrew $3 vertical spool pin project
Jim_Stutsman <jim@...>
it's beginning to look like there may be multiple items that didn't make the release of the 12000, probably because of the devastation from the earthquake & tsunami. In the case of the vertical spool pin, every Janome model has had one. All they would need to do is make one with a round base to match the hole that's already in the machine for the horizontal extra pin. So yes, I think it's very possible that we'll get one. It certainly couldn't hurt to make the suggestion.

Jim, that is worthy of a Heath Robinson or Lube Goldberg gold star award except for one thing. You kept yours beautifully simple. Maggie in UK

I am impressed with the discussion and solutions that my question about the vertical spool pin and metallic threads has generated. Very inventive, Jim and worth consideration. Do you think that Janome might consider bringing out a vertical spool pin for the 12000 at some point in the future? I might contact Janome here in the UK and suggest it to them.

Homebrew $3 vertical spool pin project
Jim_Stutsman <jim@...>
Here it is, a project worthy of the "Redneck Repairs" website. Using a handful of stuff that we had laying around, and a trip to Home Depot, we came up with a vertical spool pin that let us sew one of the built in redwork designs at 1,000 stitches per minute using a size 11 (blue tip) needle and some cheap metallic thread. All the gory details are available in this document I've uploaded to the files section: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/janome12000/files
No living creatures were harmed in creating this thing, but I did manage to glue 12 washers and a bobbin to a pencil. Great projects require great sacrifice!

Clothsetter in 2013? That's insane! It cannot possibly take that long to design one. I think your dealer was misinformed.

We have a working vertical spool holder that costs about $3 and some time. As soon as I get the pictures put together with some text I will upload it to the files area. Stay tuned!

newbie here & vertical spool thread guide
Marsha
Hi,
Just found your list & joined. Looking forward to the tips on the 12000! Thanks so much for providing this service! I've had my machine for a couple of weeks now & have done lots of regular sewing & embroidery on it. No problems so far & using it seems very intuitive to me. ( I also have the 9000, 10001, & 11000). Really hope they come out with a clothsetter (my dealer said one was planned for release in 2013). Just makes it easier for hooping large layouts. Most of my thread is on cones so the lack of a vertical spool pin was a problem. I discovered that the extra thread guide that fits my 10001 can be turned & fits perfectly over the thread cutter on the top of the 12000 (next to the bobbin winder). That allows me to use my freestanding thread holder & clip the thread through the thread guide before threading thru the machine. I'll be picking up another of the thread guides next time I'm into my dealer to replace the one on my 10001 unless someone has a better solution. I know this part was relatively inexpensive.

Size 14 is size 14. The topstitch needle has a larger eye than a standard 14 universal.

We've come up with a $3 fix for feeding metallic thread from a vertical spool pin. We'll be writing it up and uploading it shortly. Diane just did one of the redwork designs (Sunbonnet Sue with the basket) at 1,000 SPM using cheap metallic thread and a size 11 blue tip needle. No thread breaks!

Re: New Owner ,,, question regarding callibration and the plastic templates
Jim_Stutsman <jim@...>
Hey Judy, congratulations on your new "baby"! We found that our machine needed to have the hoop calibrated right out of the box. Calibration is done on the SET screen for embroidery, but you must be in embroidery mode before you start. It's not necessary to calibrate for each hoop, as they all start from the center and the center is the same for all of them. HOWEVER - if you use the "Reset all to default" it will remove the calibration and you will need to repeat it. There is an internal calibration that your dealer can do, and that one will "stick" even if you reset to defaults.

Would a size 14 embroidery needle be comparable to a size 14 top stitch needle? Thanks, Lynn

New Owner ,,, question regarding callibration and the plastic templates
judyjanome <judyjanome@...>
I picked up the machine last week. I love the 9 mm stitches. I tried a couple of the built in patterns. After I loaded the hoop (I owned the first 11000 a few years ago) I checked the needle and it was not in the center of the plastic templete. I thought I should go into the tools for the emb unit and callibrated the needle to move into the center of the plastic templete, and then clicked ok. I removed the plastic templete. Then I stiched out the design. Do you have to callabrate each hoop before use. I hope I am explaining myself. Last night I went to default in the tools menu which changed my settings back because I forgot to change out the zig zag stitch plate to the single hole plate. I again tried a small design when I finished checked the placement of the design in the hoop and it was perfect. There are two holes side by each in that single hole plate and the emb does start in the hole on the left but the placement was perfect. If all this was unnecessary what is the callibration option in the tool menu for. I am so sorry to go on about this but I did want you to understand. Thanks Judyjanome

Re: Picked up my 12000 today
Frecia Kelly
o.k.....now I have to see a photo of that thing the dealer made. It sounds like it might work for several of my balky threads. I have a very helpful husband who can use some winter projects.
Fyfee
Whooopeeeeeeeee! !!! Picked up my 12000 today!! It is still in the box as I am going to watch the instruction video quite a few times before I get it out of the box. I use a lot of metallic thread and have little thing one of the dealers made. It is a vertical spindle set on a rotating disk, the metallic thread comes off the spool sideways and goes through a hole cut in a piece of wood that is also on the stand that holds the vertical spindle and disk. This makes the metallic thread come off the cone sideways and stay coming off sideways for approx 15cm and it rarely ever tangles..... .....hope this is clearer than mud Kris in Australia

Also, just a thought, check to see whether you have the machine set to slow start because I think if you do and you are timid with your pressure, it's going to be timid in its response.(Maybe)

Diane has tested the foot, with these observations: * It does not line up perfectly with the feed dogs. * The needle must be moved left to center between the red marks on the foot. * It works just fine! She just showed me a scrap of Minkee with a rolled hem, as well as a nice seam. Due to not quite lining up with the feed dogs, it may pull require care to keep it straight on long seams, but otherwise it works great.
