Hi
No need to install stitch composer since you have it. It is included for those who have embroidery only - they can create stitches to use with AcuStitch

This was it, but I was able to get it from my local quilt shop after all.  They had recently gotten some in but they had been relocated them to the area of the shop with the long arm quilting supplies.  Pays to ask for assistance.

Re: Janome HD Roller Foot for Janome 7mm and 9mm High Shank Machines

Carole O'Mara

The HD foot that I ordered has arrived and I've had some time to give it a test.  The diagrams and instructions are minimal.  I was able to find the foot on the Janome site with a larger photo of the foot, but with same instructions.  Nowhere are there instructions or in the photo that show that the roller must rest on the left or right feed dog.  It's the feed dog that drives the roller.  The needle must be moved to the furtherest left or right position.  So the foot is used with the zig-zag plate, not single hole.  The foot pressure also has to be adjusted.  Once I had it all set, I made a quilt sandwich and began sewing using the straight stitch.  Unlike the dual feed or walking foot, by the time I got to the end of the sandwich (about 10") the top fabric was longer than the bottom.  I then did some wavy lines, again top fabric feeding faster than bottom fabric.  I then made a larger sandwich (20"x20")--same result. With a sandwich that size I could not do anything other than straight or wavy--no circles as could not turn the fabric to do any kind of design.  Clearly, this foot is very specialized for leather and vinyl.  Or I do not have the right adjustments made.  I was hoping to use this foot for free motion look.  Instead, I'll use Diane's DIY magnetic hoop with purchased continuous run designs for quilting a quilt.   If anyone has suggestions, please post.
Thanks,

Thanks, Faviola!  I had already experimented with it so was not a problem selecting English, machine, and played with various hoops and designs. I think it’s a useful software. I spent over 30 years in IT and computers were one of my hobbies so I saw enough ‘old version overwrites’ and ‘dll hell’ schmuck up my users’ computers...part of my job was to fix the mess!!!  I’m one to ask first then to proceed with great caution...lol

No, if you have Horizon Link already installed you don’t install the Stitch Composer again. It’s the exact same version.
The instructions will also detail that you need to choose the primary machine you use, if you have multiple machines, but it can also be changed in the Start menu when you work in the program. This is because of the hoops for the different machines.

AcuStitch

I installed AcuStitch today, and saw there is an option to install StitchComposer, too.  I have the 15000, so have Horizon Link Suite installed, and it already has that.  Is there a difference...a benefit...a reason I should install it from the AcuStitch DVD?  I didn't install it because I didn't want to schmuck up the current installation, since StitchComposer is a component of HLS, which I upgraded following the v.3 update.

Thanks for guidance...info...much appreciated.

threader on M7

jan shaw

Periodically the threader on my M7o fails to work. I notice that part of the black arm has "jumped its track". I can poke it back in but it doesn't always work properly. In addition the magnifier (which when purchased came in a package stating it was for the M7 is a tight fit under the treader and often slides off to the left when using it. Does my machine need a trip to the spa or can I fix it.
thanks

The designs are grouped in hoop sizes, so not all are displayed at the same time, if you have an arrow on the right or at the bottom, it shows there are other ‘pages’ of designs.  Also don’t put too many on the USB stick it slows the machine down reading the designs if there are too many, it doesn’t have to same computing power as your computer to display.  Only use the USB to stitch from, don’t store them on the USB you want to use on your machine.

Re: iPad and pencil

It comes down to what you want to use it for. If we’re talking email and web, then a base model would be fine. For digitizing you might want to bump the RAM up a bit. I would get an SSD instead of a conventional hard drive. That’s standard on the MacBook Air. Apple’s SSD prices are pretty steep once you get past the base model, but you could always use an external drive if you need more storage. It really comes down to whether you need Windows or not. If you do, then you don’t have many options. If you can get by without Windows any MacBook with the M1 processor would be the best choice. Note that those with M1 can run iPad software on the Mac.

Thanks to both you and Mattes for your input. I have 2  basic models with each having additional options at additional costs. What model and options do you recommend as at my advanced age this should be my last lapto. Again thanks.

I agree with Mattes. I recently got the M1 MacBook Air and it's fantastic. No fan, no heat, lots of speed and long battery life. BUT you cannot run Windows on it, even in a Virtual Machine. If that's a deal breaker you can find lots of discounted MacBook Pros with Intel chips. Just make sure you get a 2020 model, which is when they finally replaced the awful "butterfly" keyboard.

I have a mini iPad and also a Surface Pro tablet that I have been using for years - still love it.  It's relatively expensive but has not disappointed. Good Luck!

On a slightly different topic but still Apple, I have a dinosaur laptop which I have relied on for years which appears to be failing. Do you have a recommendation. I use it for all my Janome storage and transfer of embroidery designs to my machine. I use a much newer phone and iPad for everything else. Looking for a newish laptop for Janome interface. Recommendations please.

This is probably the model you want: https://www.apple.com/ipad-10.2/
However, if you can wait a bit, we're expecting an Apple event soon that may announce new models. The above model is already discounted some at Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=iPad+10.2&ref=nb_sb_noss_2
If  a new model is announced they may drop the price on this one, or other retailers like Best Buy, Costco, etc. may be discounting it.

If you're fine with NOT running Windows on your Mac, I'd look at the new M1 MacBook Air or Pro. I've got the latter and its battery life and speed it gorgeous ... without turning the slightest warm. Compatibility with older apps - not optimized for Apple Silicon - is flawless.

The acrylic table should have come with your machine if you bought from a dealer.  If you bought from some else they may have not included it     with your purchase.  It is standard when you purchase new.

At the recent ATL Sew Expo, I saw a clear lucite side “table” that hooked on to the machine. Wondering if anyone has this side table on their 12000 that could give an opinion on it? Also, where one can be purchased or if another has one they would like to sell/get rid of?

Re: iPad and pencil

Sandy,
I have the iPad that Jim recommended just now. It is indeed the best price. I bought my Apple Pencil on Amazon. Mine is 1st generation for the iPad 10.2 8th gen and works well. It is normally about $99 but I found it on sale during the holidays for about $15 off of that price. You would want to get your iPad first since the Pencil (1st gen or 2nd gen) is specific to the type of iPad you get.
