Re: Bobbin Winder Spindle
Vikki Youngmeyer
You can pull the bobbin winder ”flat bed” up over the spindle – it takes a bit of force, but once done, you will know how to do it the next time. Then just remove the threads by either cutting or unwinding. If you don’t want to pull it up, you can unwind it, but it will take a while. This works on the 12000 and 15000 and other machines with the same configuration!

Ugh! I did it--I wound some thread underneath the bobbin winder. I know this has been asked before, but I can't find it in the group's archive and I can't find it in my book. Can anyone please help?

5 thread stand holder #859430009
mah_jongg
Just bought this 5 thread stand holder for my 550e. Cannot figure out how to install it on the machine. Took out one screw (closest to tension guide) and the screw is to short to do anything. Thread stand holder needs the 2 out of the 3 screws on (backside of machine) closest to tension guide. Picture/directions on back of box does not work. Screws are not included with thread stand. Googled and found similar instructions. Nothing on youtube. Machine manual does not mention anything about the screws in back of machine. Janome website lists this model 859430009 for my machine, yet shows the one for the 10000 (have that one also). Any and all help would be appreciated. Please give specific/detailed directions on how to install this if you can. As I write this, Janome's website is giving error message on both my browsers. Because of the virus, dealers in my area are closed.
thanks, mahjongg

Re: Needles for threader
I use Schmetz needles and are fine for my 15000. For quilting I use Schmetz Quilting Needles and makes a real difference. I have also used the Schmetz topstitching needles and are also great.

Re: Bobbin Winder Spindle
Which machine do you have? If it's the 15000 you can pull up on the disk that the bobbin sits on to remove it so you can unwind the thread. When you put the disk back on note that there is a notch on the base of the spindle that needs to line up with the bottom of the disk. Otherwise it won't wind right. If you don't have the 15000 you may have to wait for service, as other models don't have this feature.

Re: Needles for threader
HEATHER COWAN
Kathleen: I use Organ needles which is the company that makes Janome needles. I find they work great but must be at least 80/11 or the eye is too small for the threader. When I have had trouble with my threader it has ALWAYS been that I haven’t seated the needle all the way up in the needle hole. I take care now to make sure it is as high as it will go with the flat side facing the rear of the machine. Sometimes if you damage the little hook that snags the thread and brings it through the needle ...... it cannot be bent back to be effective. My advice would be if it doesn’t work the first time don’t keep trying and maybe bend or break that little wire hook. Check that your needle is seated all the way up and ..... make sure your needle is in the correct position by hitting the needle up and needle down button. Good luck..... ps .... I have the 15000 and the 9900 [which is the older model of the S9] and love them both. Hugs Heather

I tried those complimentary Klase needles and always had problems with them, I just don’t think they are compatible with the Janome machines. I stick with Janome needles and Organ brand and never have problems with needle threader. Another tip is to always
use the needle up/down button to insure the needle is in the highest position. Keep in mind that incident with the Klase needle may have bent the little hook of the needle threader and it may need to be adjusted,

Hi Kathleen. I have a 12000 which has the pull down needle threader. I used to have your problem of it sometimes working, sometimes not. I re read the manual and now always lock the machine when threading and it works 100% of the time! You may be doing this but if not, try it. I love this threader now.

Re: Sewing on bra hooks
Cheryl Paul
I sew my own bras - many of them in the past 15+ years, and the “hooks” are probably the most challenging of the whole procedure. I carefully pin the hooks to the back band elastic, use my regular foot, hooks up, and move the needle to the closest setting beside the hooks and sew and I repeat, carefully. I sometimes sew the bottom part down first so that I have the fabrics together and sewn well on one side at least, then put the 3 layers together and sew it again. I’ve used a straight stitch, zig zag or both at different times. I’ve also sewn the seam twice, as I’d never want it to let loose while wearing - my luck would be that I’d be in church, at the front singing in the choir, if a failure occurred. I’m saying it is a bit tricky, but not impossible. Now the “eyes” part is very easy as everything is very flat, but you still need to proceed carefully as there is metal enclosed in fabric that you cannot see when you are sewing. There is enough room in both the “hooks” and “eyes” to sew, just remember that and “hooks up”.

Re: 6500P
Betsy
I bought my 6500P used from ebay in 2002 it has only needed serviced once just after I got it. It is a workhorse and is still going strong. I use it almost everyday while my 15000 is doing embroidery. I had a 10000 and it ran from 2001 until I traded it in 2 years ago. I loved it and it never needed service, used it almost daily but wanted bigger hoops and larger computer in it. I love them both and will always choose Janome. They just keep on going.

Needles for threader
Kathleen Chevalier
I have the S9, which I think is sort of a baby 15000. My needle
threader is not "automatic" I manually push down on the threader
lever. It works intermittently. Sometimes right away, sometimes only
after many tries, sometimes not at all. Last time I threaded the
needle manually without the threader, but my sight is such that it
is difficult.
I used a Klase 80/12 that I received free with a Nancy's Notions order. The needle threader hook stuck in the needle eye. I had great difficulty getting it out. When It happened a second time I decided the throw the Klase needle out the next time I changed thread. So now I'm wondering if the needle could be a problem. I am using Schmetz needles. Does anyone else have a problem using the needle threader with certain brands of needles? -- Kathleen Chevalier

Re: 6500P

Vicki- You might try calling your dealer and see if the machine is ready and if you can do curb-side pickup for it. The only issue would be if you wanted to try it out before taking it home with you. But- if you make an appointment and were the only customer inside the shop and wore a mask... You might be able to pick up your machine now rather than wait. I have had experience with some of the newer Singer machines and they are not worth much IMO. All the plastic parts etc inside make them not as good as they once were. I've also used the little $75 machines when a young girl came to my sewing club with it. It worked well for the doll clothes. My issue is it didn't have a light so it was hard for me to see what was going on with it. But- my vision is also screwy (has been for 30yrs) and I have issues with it more than just needing great lighting. Tracy

Re: janome 5700 hand wheel
Oil won’t help, even if you could get into the machine to apply it. This is a failure of the top bushing that the main shaft goes through. They had a lot of trouble with the 9000, 10000, and 5700 due to bushing failure. It requires replacing the top shaft and bushings. In the 11000 they switched to ball bearings to avoid this. You’ll have to have it serviced, though the cost may exceed the value of the machine. It’s kind of a nasty repair.

Re: Thread cutter on 11000
vjw_65@...
Do you have a tiny level? the cutter may be bent you need to check for level. It has to travel across a path that has other metal either may be bent. Once mine had a needle point in the elbow where it
swings out to cut the thread. Look in the elbow have a small magnet there to catch it.

Re: 6500P
Vikki Youngmeyer
I bought the 6500 about 2 weeks before the 6600 came out. I sewed that thing into the ground! I traded it and my 350e in on the 12000 when it first came out. I bought it from the same store I bought the 6500 from and got a good trade in allowance. The owner was refurbishing the machines. When she came to my 6500, it became a parts machine as I had really sewn the heck out of it as I did a lot of quilting on it!

I am wondering if you find a button with the same eye space,
if you could not use the button sewing tool. I would try to rig it up
that method or take the task to bed with you and sew as you relax.
