I can't find the link on how to make them. I've been making some for our food bank workers but they will be outdoors so no pocket for a filter.

Jim, Thank you for mentioning this.  Too often folks feel the need to point out that the masks don't protect against Covid 19 but the people who are sewing them and helping out know this and know that hospitals, doctors, nurses, nursing homes and some rescue workers need these due to the profound shortage at this time.  Hopefully this will resolve in the future and we can all be proud of what we did in this time of great need.

I wouldn’t want someone to have used a home made mask that wasn’t designed to specifications to come down with the virus. There are people around that would hunt you down and could sue you for making the mask.

I am glad you brought that to the group’s attention.  Although the gesture is nice the masks do not protect against the Covid 19 virus.  The required mask is the N95 ones that Hanes and Raytheon are manufacturing.

That’s normal behavior for the HP foot & plate.

One of our neighbors has a son & daughter-in-law that are both physicians. They asked her to make masks for them. There is a pocket in the mask where they can insert a filter that causes it to actually block virus.

Mr Mattes,  I agree with what you are saying, but do you know are nurses & Drs are asked to reuse their 95 masks again or putting them in a paper bag to be reused.  So homemade masks are being done so a nurse or Dr can add a layer of protection in the masks (which is made in them) or a protective cover like they use in the operation room.  Something is better than nothing & these individuals understand the meaning of protection.  As a nurse I can attest to that.  Hopefully very soon the equipment needed will be readily available.  These are times we have never known before & we all must abide with what they are telling us to do. And each of us should do all we can to help in any way possible.  God Bless these Drs nurses, paramedics, health workers & so on for what they are doing

If you open the second options down and then go to designs it should let you do a .jef.  Not by computer right now.

Re: Embroidery on MC12000 question

Are the designs you are trying to do the ones with ornaments in the center and borders around them?  Perhaps you could crop the design to eliminate the border, then add it later. I realize this would not work if you would want to do the stippling included with the design, but you could add your own quilting stitches to the completed block, if you are into that kind of thing.

If the hand wheel won't turn something is preventing movement. It could be a screw that wasn't tightened, and vibration from shipping made it fall out. That happened on Diane's 12000, which refused to open the carriage after unboxing. Your only viable option is to return to the dealer. Good luck!

Thank you all for your suggestions.
I'm going to visit my friend, after the Covid-19 stay at home orders are over, to use her larger hoop and her Viking sewing machine.

Dear Jim, I just unboxed a brand new Janome 9450 and unfortunately the message please raise needle bar slowly came up. Sounds simple but the needle bar knob only moves a tiny, tiny bit and than is solid as anything. No matter what I try the message keeps coming up and the knob is solid. There also seems to be a 2 second delay when I switch the machine on and off. My 12000 at least switches the lights on instantly and than goes through it's motions. I have switched on on/off numerous times, tried needle plate changes, took bobbin case out, opened the left hand side to see if I could see anything obvious but all to no evail. Apart from taking it back to the dealer, do you have any suggestions? Thanks heaps Bernadette

Re: Problem with bobbin winding

Jim I had one of those senior moments, I was trying to use the foot pedal to wind the bobbin on my 15000, I guess that what happens from going from my 8900 back to the 15000. I figured it last night when I woke up that I had to hit the bobbin winding button to start the bobbin winding. It was operator error. 🤣
