Re: Digitizer MBX v 5.5 upgrade from 5.0 installation question

Heather Penwell

Thank you everyone who responded to my question. I installed version 5.5 without a hitch. I was prompted to remove the Corel files and the rest of the installation went just fine. Upon opening the program, I was prompted for the registration/product key. All is good so far!
Thanks for the heads up on the Windows 10 update 1903. It is installing as we speak.
I appreciate the support.
Have a good day.

-- I have the same problem. Somehow MBX  files on my computer disappeared and I tried to install the upgrade and of course it would not take it.. I have moved since I first installed it and can not find my original disc. Over the last 20 years or so I have paid so much money for these programs, and I just can not justify another $1000 or more for a new program. I am so disappointed in Janome for not helping those of us for our loyalty by helping with situations like this. MY dongle will still light up but I now have no way to digitize. I will keep searching for my disc but the past few years have been upgrades. I registered my program with Janome and it seems they should have a record of that. Why else would we register machines and products except to prove that we purchased. I just spent another $15,000 on a new quilting machine and frame so I can not buy another digitizing program and that upsets me very much as I have a little website with my designs and now can't even continue with that.

I was just relooking at all the information that everyone sent on the mbx 5.5 install corel problem.
I then noticed you were in the Houston area also and then wondered if it was a crazy batch that Houston had or is it our internet system.
I did end up going into the registry to delete the corel.
I was very pleased with the Janome Tech support though.
Thank you for your support

three cheers!!!
Janome called me and walked me through installation after all my problems.
I was so worried since there was so much talk about support, but they actually called me.
Then emailed me step by step directions.
My problems were with Corel Files imbedded in the register that did not delete.
I had to also uninstall MBX 5 which caused my problems.
I must have had an update or not an update.
PLEASE NOTE:  These problems were directed specifically to my computer and program.
Everyone else I know has had no problems.
Please don't worry about your installs.
JANOME TECH SERVICE was the best at helping me with MBX.

THANK TO ALL OF YOU for your help and suggestions also. It really helped reduce my stress.

After I finished I had 2 mbx icons so contacted Janome and I uninstalled 5.0 mbx from programs - I had 5.5 still installed.
I made sure I was online when I did this
Was using mbx 5.5 no issues yet!
A few months later my computer crashed!!
I installed 5.5 from usb that came with upgrade while online no issues yet!!
Just got my new computer so will be installing
5.5 on it today!!!

You apparently installed MBX V5 as an upgrade from 4. That installation deactivated the dongle, so it will no longer work. MBX V5 works with a "software" dongle that is code-based. You should have a separate CD to register the code number in the MBX V5 box. If you've already done 2 installs then you'll need Janome help to "unregister" your previous installations.

The Janome tech sent me instructions and I successfully went pass the point I was stuck on.
Now I need to reinstall MBX 5 but can't get it to install.  I had upgraded from MBX 4 and it is asking for the dongle which doesn't seem to want to read.
I was so excited to get pass the spot to erase all the corel. I thought nothing more could happen!

When 4.0 came out there were lots of issues with installs. Even though it was purchased as an upgrade we were not told that it was a complete program and we needed to completely uninstall all previous installed programs including Corel. When Corel is installed there are lots of places it installs and you could not just uninstall the mbx you had to go to program files and look for it all. It was crazy. When I went from 4.5 to 5. My Windows 7 computer would not accept the program so I contacted Janome who in turn had me contact Wilcom and the did it for me. Installing in Windows 10 went perfectly.  Not to change the subject however Windows has come out with a new build. It is supposed to have been included in an update back in June. My Windows 10 kept giving me error reports and my Hatch software was going crazy. I contacted Wilcom who put me in touch with Microsoft. Microsoft had to take over my computer and install for me. My firewall kept interfering with the install. Now all is fine. You may want to check your version of build if it is more than a few months old and download the new version
Lots of improvements for the better and it is free. New build is 1903. If you want to know how to check build press your windows icon caps lock and R at the same time. A window comes up with a search click search and it will have a window with your build of your OS. Remember to shut your firewall off if you do download it. After installing you can turn it back on.  Sorry for so much info.

Heather
When you go to install 5.5 from 5, you will receive a message to uninstall Corel.
I had been told by others to do that, I must have uninstalled something upside down and backwards.
I'm sure you won't have any problems.
I am now going to delete everything and reinstall 5
It has been easy for everyone I know
You won't have any problems.

By the way, the sticker shock for the upgrade was unexpectedly high. I hope it is worth it!

I’ve   Upgraded to V5.5, had no problems at all with it or Corel.  I have upgraded from V4 Jr through V5 and now 5.5.  I have uninstalled all earlier versions on my PC things are all good.  I do make sure I ‘purge’ recovery and backup folders when I shut down and before I start the program, fingers crossed it’s ok.  The only issues I sometimes have is when windows and/or security software updates.  I sometimes have problems when I open the program if my PC or laptop is on the net (laptop is still V5 not enough memory for V5.5), so I always shut the net down and open the program once it’s up and running I can switch the net on.  That’s my security software or windows, interfering with it I’m sure.

As I stated before, we did not upgrade to 5.5, instead switching to Hatch. So I can’t say whether you should uninstall Corel, though if it needs to be done they will likely do it during the upgrade. It’s best to let the installer do its thing. Corel has been a problem child for MBX since its inclusion, and in earlier versions uninstalling it before upgrading led to problems.

Re: flash drive

Jim Stutsman

Port 1 looks OK, but 2 does not look right. The black plastic piece is what the USB wires are attached to. It looks like there is something covering the contacts, which are visible in port 1. I can't tell what's in port 2 from the photo, but if 1 is working you can use that. There's no need to replace the part, and if you can GENTLY probe in port 2 with the machine turned off maybe you can extract whatever is in there. It doesn't look like the plastic piece is broken, though it's hard to tell from the photos.

Re: flash drive

I found the problem. I think. I looked at both ports, I saw no wires. What I saw was port 2, had a
black plastic thing to the top. Port 1, does not. I used port 1, all the time. By the way, it is
working again. I can use my other flash drives, but not the pink one, I threw that one away.
So do you think I am good.  Or will there be a problem in the future. Should I buy that part.?

Re: Bobbin jumping around during embroidery

Jim Stutsman

Most of the time a jumping bobbin is due to there being a burr on the bobbin itself or somewhere on the bobbin case or hook race of the machine. It can also happen if the bobbin is the wrong size, e.g. a Singer class 66 bobbin. That's probably not the case this time though. I would wind a new bobbin. If it still jumps then look at the bobbin case and hook race under bright light and magnification.

I am embroidering some quilt blocks.  I'm using Fabri-Solvy on the back, So Fine in the bobbin, polyester embroidery thread on top, yellow dot bobbin case.  I can hear the bobbin jumping around.  The designs are stitching out fine, but the sound is driving me crazy.  I've tried switching to another bobbin, changing to another stabilizer, slowing the machine down, changing the needle, changing back to the regular bobbin case, changing the needle plate, etc.  Nothing helps.  I've used this same combination before and never had this problem.  Is there something wrong with my machine?

I had problems with Corel Paint Shop Pro and finally had to call their support hotline. In my case the “uninstall” program didn’t complete its tasks in the registry editor when uninstalling the original program, (which was the first step in the instructions for installing the later version). I’ve been away from programming too long to mess with regedit program and removing things.

Before you try to install anything else which piggy backs off any Corel program, get their tech support to work their magic. They had to log in remotely to my computer and it took them about an hour to clean everything up. That included installing the later version and running some tests.

Subject: [onlinesewing-janome] trying to install MBX 5.5 from MBX 5

I am having problems installing MBX 5.5 from MBX 5.  I have uninstalled and deleted all corelDraw from my computer but I still get the following message.
"An incompatible version of CorelDRAW (X4/X5) exists on this system. CorelDRAW Graphics Suite SE cannot be installed without first removing the incompatible version(s).
If you would like to integrate with CorelDRAW(R), please exit now and remove any older versions of corelDraw(R)."

I have searched my computer for any Corel files and apps and cannot find any.
Is there a hidden spot in the computer where it is?  I started with MBX 4 then upgraded to 5 and now I am having problems installing MBX 5.5.
Is there a quick way to contact the Janome MBX support person?
Any help or ideas are appreciated.
Thank you,
Karen M
