Re: Bobbins

Good Morning Fern
Wonderfil makes a set of 40  multi coloured thread bobbins both Class A and Class 15 (the latter is suggested for the Janome machines)- available online, in my local quilt shops and at quilting fairs. Sets of one colour only are also available. Wonderfil a Canadin company and have online shop.
Superior threads (USA) have a vast range snd also detailed educational information in regard to threads- well worth the read.
There is no specific bobbin for the 12000 as far as I have read though there is some mention that the Class 15 are slightly different in size from the Class A and better suit Janome machines.
These are the two companies that I use as trust their thread integrity but am sure other reputable companies also are worth investigating.
I am in Australia and will purchase online direct from the afore mentioned companies if unable to purchase locally.
with regard
Ann

https://www.habanddash.com/displays/bobbin-packs.html.  That’s one of many sites.

I just typed in pre-wound bobbins colored thread and a lot of links popped up!

The Janome machines class 15 bobbins (except for the Janome 1600 – which does not have the horizontal bobbin case. The manual (for the 15000) does not recommend using paper bobbins.

I like all thread.  I use different thread for different projects.  Like r.a. Rayon for fsl. Mettler silk finish cotton for thread art, sulky too.  All kinds of embroidery thread.  I love YLI for thread art couching and serging.  I was taught to use Gutterman for quilting and piecing still use it.  Coats and clark for repairs and sometimes hemming.  I use a range of poly for embroidery.  I love variegated thread.  I use it all, - isocord sulky mettler,  floriani metro pro, - all of superior threads thread , simthread embroidered nicely,  connecting thread essential, Madeira regular and supertwist. Aurifull too.  So my answer is i like all thread.  Sorry not helpful.  Lately it is R.A.

Just now 'found' this site, after a long time away from my Janome and stitching.  So glad to review all the questions and answers.  It's a plus to see Jim S and wife and their vast knowledge of machines and all.

Janome 12000 bobbins

Fern Knoll <fmk@...>

i have been told by friends and by some dealers to never use any bobbins except Janome bobbins in my Janome 12000.  Glad to see notes here opposite to that.  What company do you Buy your prewound colored thread bobbins from?  I need some for FSU projects.  If I should not ask for company names, please ignore.

Re: Pre wound bobbins colored thread for Janome 12000

I’ve used all sorts of pre-wound bobbins on the Janome 12000 and 15000 machines with no problem. Depending upon the thread weight, you may want to do some test runs and adjust accordingly  if you change manufacturers or types of thread.

Is it safe to purchase prewound bobbins, class 15 , colored thread for Janome 12000?

Re: Pre wound bobbins colored thread for Janome 12000

As long as they are good quality, i.e. no burrs on the edges, no cracks, etc. they should be fine. Note that Class 15 bobbins are sometimes sold as type A.

Re: Shopping for a new computer

The sticking point on MacBook Pros is the keyboard. Last year's model had an absurdly "fragile" keyboard that would fail if even a hint of dust got into it. They stonewalled at first, then finally started replacing keyboards. The new model supposedly has a plastic cover over the key switches, but it's a little early to see if that is a final fix. I would wait at least until after the Apple event on the 30th just to see what new stuff gets released, and also see what reviews are saying about the keyboard on the MBP.

Re: Digitizer MBX V5

Cheryl Paul

I read in another group that Janome has an upgrade of MBX V5.5 coming. It will not contain all the nice things in are in Hatch, but as I don’t have Hatch I’m don’t have a clue what these differences are. It was suggested in the post I read, that we should ask for the upgrade, as Janome America is really pushing Artistic Digitizer and I did get this impression with the last event I attended, when the Canadian Education person was really talking about Artistic, with no mention of MBX until asked about it. She did say that Janome was not getting rid of Digitizer MBX anytime soon, but only time will tell. If we want to keep it going we do need to purchase the upgrades and insist that our dealers order them for us, when they are made available. Supply and demand will be the tell factor - I hope.

My experience with the “Artistic” label of software that I do own is that it is NOT at all user friendly and a real pain in “you know where” to try to digitize anything. The results of making something are OK, but I still take them over to MBX to do things the designs and save, etc. This Artistic Digitizer will certainly attract folks with MAC computers, that aren’t willing to use Windows via a virtual machine program. That might be the death of a program that I personally really love and that is Digitizer - if that happens I guess I’ll move over to Hatch as Wilcom has certainly done a good job with their programs.

Shopping for a new computer

Hi Jim,
I asked you earlier this year about a new MacBook Pro and you said wait.  They have released the new 2018 MacBook Pro.  I dutifully read the reviews and got confused.  They seem to think it's great.  What do you think?  After all you run the software that we are interested in using with the computer.  Also what would you suggest as the recommended add-ons.  Thank you for the insight in this matter.
