Re: Accessories Janome S9

One of the reasons people don’t use the manual as a resource is it can be confusing as to what and where to look. Downloading the manual to iBooks on the iPad helps tremendously! Using the search tool is way better than thumbing through the hard copy.

The roll of stuff is samples of different kinds of stabilizer to use with embroidery module. The dual feed feet are your walking feet. I’m thrilled with my S9.

Page 9 in the manual pictures the felt and stabilizers. These are samples of what you might use for various embroidery projects.
Page 35 in the manual explains the uses of the Dual Feed Feet, also known as Acu-Feed system. Yes, they are the equivalent of walking feet.
There are two things I'm constantly amazed at: One that machine dealers actually sell machines without explaining what they are selling to the purchaser. Second, that the purchaser doesn't take an active role in discovering what they have purchased. Reading the manual that comes with the machine is vital to this process of learning.
I hope that this doesn't sound harsh, but seriously we spend several thousand dollars on a machine and to not take charge and learn all of it's beauties is strange. I'm retired from working in a Janome dealership and still teach there. Our purpose is to educate and equip our customers to get the fullness out of their machines, I wish that all dealers would do so.

Maggie you are welcome to advertise here any time! The only people who know as much about Janome's Digitizer software are in Australia, working at Wilcom. Her group is the most selfless one on the Internet, as it is devoted 100% to helping people learn to digitize. I have not mentioned her group, not because of any advertising phobia, but rather because she strives to keep the size of it manageable. She is not compensated for the enormous amount of time that she devotes to it, and she needs to restrict membership to those who are serious, not just curious. Maggie is truly an unsung hero of the Internet.

'dual feet" accessories?  Are they the equivalent of walking feet in other Janome machines
Yes they are used in the same way as the even feed foot only better in some ways, for example they're not as bulky and there is a dual feed zipper foot as well.  It's very useful indeed.

The 9 has the set of twin dual feed feet (AD, UD and OD) and the set of single dual feed feet (VD and ED)

Depending on what you sew, I recommend getting the concealed zipper foot if you do dressmaking and lots more spare bobbins.
received in the box is a roll of felt and a roll of plastic
I don't know so guessing - maybe the felt is a sample for you to try out some stitches or to try embroidering a design.
No idea about the plastic.
Something that I like that came with my Janome (different model) is the (peelable) rectangle of plastic that is placed on the freearm near the needle plate to protect that part of the bed from scratches or rubbing marks from the movement of embroidery hoops

Enjoy your wonderful machine

Hi Jo,
I inquired about the workbooks, but certainly didn't receive a reply.  Still interested if you would consider posting to Australia. Regards,

Accessories Janome S9

Hi everyone, I recently bought myself a Janome S9 and absolutely adore it!  Could not afford the amazing 15000 but this machine is good value for the price, amongst the items I received in the box is a roll of felt and a roll of plastic, does anyone know what these items are for?  Silly question I know, but I am curious.

Also could someone tell me the functions of the 'dual feet" accessories?  Are they the equivalent of walking feet in other Janome machines?   Thanks in advance for any advice, regards, Mary in Australia

your dealer needs to let Janome know your update is done and then Janome will send you a link to download The software

I recently had my dealer complete the update on my 15000 and I purchased the Quilt Maker Accessory Upgrade Kit. On the last page of the booklet that comes with the kit it describes how to upgrade the Horizon Link Suite. But it starts with insert the USB flash drive that contains the software upgrade. Where does that come from? I asked my dealer who fiinished the update on the machine and he didn't seem to know.

Re: Horizon Link Suite 1.30

Unfortunately Janome included the same instructions for both the US/Canada upgrade kit and the UK/Australia upgrade kit. The kit for UK and Australia comes with a USB containing the Horizon Link update. In the US and Canada the dealer must notify Janome of the upgrade and they send an email with a link to download the update software. There is no USB.

What workbooks are you discussing?  Are they different from those we receive with our machines?  Donna

Mine got stuck right after the update. Had to take it back. Dealer had to “unstuck” it. Don’t know what he did. It has worked fine ever since. It would not do anything. Very frustrating but so far so good for several months now.

I just took my 15000 to the dealer yesterday for the upgrade and service. Is this something I should ask about before I bring it home?

Pru,
If you can use the ASQ22 hoop for your towel, you can sit the SQ23 hoop (inner section) on top of it and use the AcuSetter app.  I did this with a quilt to get perfect placement of some designs.  As the hoop sizes are so similar the placement worked out for me.  I didn't tell my machine that I was using the ASQ22 hoop and let it think it was the SQ23 hoop.  Not sure if I posted the method here (think I did).  It was a quilt on which I embroidered leaves.  Using a template from HLS, AcuDesign and AcuSetter, I was able to resize and rotate the leaves and place them exactly where I wanted them.

Re: AcuDesign fault

Yes I’ve used the AcuSetter app but couldn’t use it for stitching on a towel as it covered the black marks on the hoop.
