15000 update

So, what do you do about an update if you purchased your 15000 from a private owner? I thought I read that dealers were charging around $150? I would be willing to pay that, and have told my dealer that I would pay for it but I cannot get a response from them. Keep in mind I do like my dealer and have purchased every one of my machines from them, I think around 5 if not more over the years, except for this machine as I got it for a great bargain that I just couldn’t pass up. I have been using .JEF files. I don’t see any .EMB files anywhere. My 15000 has no problem seeing them. It’s the 12000 that’s messing up – says there are “no files”. I use the same flash drive in both machines.

When formatting the flash drive it creates 2 folders the EMBF and the ORD. you can save in both however in embroidery you need to be sure all files are placed in the EMBF folder. Easy way to remember is EMBF (embroidery folder) It is the same for both the 12 and the 15. When sending the EMB files from the software there is an o[tion on the tool bar to send either to the USB or direct connect however once you send to the flashdrive you plst place in the EMBF folder or the machine cannot read it.

I'm back! And I have a problem...

I am so happy to have found this group again. My husband and I moved to a different state recently so I am trying to get all of my computer "stuff" organized again. My problem that I hope someone can help with is I can't seem to get my hoop to move to where I need it to in order to begin stitching where I want to. It had been awhile since I had last used the embroidery arm on my 12000 and I am actually doing a quilt stipple on a baby quilt I am making. I am using an Amelie Scott Edge-to-Edge quilting file, the medium stipple, and when I switched to the 'B' design to start quilting the second column, I could not get the hoop to move to where I needed to begin the stitching. With this software, I need to line up the needle exactly so that it matches up to where the 'A' design ended in the previous column. I pressed the Jog/Stitch key, then tried to adjust the hoop position with the jog keys, but it would only move so far. I reset the stitch counter to zero, which moved the hoop so that the needle was near, but not on, center. I tried to move the hoop so the needle was centered over the design but, again, it would move only so far and not enough to get the hoop where it needed to be. I bumped the stitch count up to 1 and the hoop moved left, but the closest I could get it to where it needed to be vertically was about 1/4 of an inch from the point I needed to begin at. I could get it horizontally inline with the pattern, but not vertically. I know this is a long explanation, but I wanted to provide as much info as I could about the problem. Help please? When the JOG key won't move as far as you want it to, it means that the design does not have enough unused space between the stitches and the edge of the hoop. It will never allow you to jog outside the boundaries of the stitch area.

Takeup lever

My 15000 was acting up before the update. It sewed fine for five months (new machine in April of this year) but then it started acting up in August. I got the update in September but it is still acting up. I don’t think it is related to the update. There is no way I can predict when it will happen. I am sewing along. Many starts and stops. I stop sewing. I start sewing again and it crunches up in the bobbin. The thread has jumped out of the takeup lever whenever this happens. I don’t know if it is jumping out and that causes the bobbin thread mess or if the bobbin is messing up and somehow causes the upper thread to jump out of the takeup lever. I think it is the first. —it happens more often when I have first threaded, but it also happens as described above, when I have been sewing, cutting (not always when cutting) stopping, starting. —my thread is in the top of the machine with the white circle thing holding it snug. I’ve used cotton and or polyester and it does it on both threads. I had posted previously that I thought it was the thread type. But then I discovered the thread has jumped out of the takeup lever every time. Now if I were a brand new sewist, or had not sewed successfully on this machine for five months, I might think its me. But I really am sure something is wrong. I had it to the dealer last week BEFORE I noticed that it was jumping out of the takeup lever. He found a burr in the bobbin case...that isn’t the problem because as I said, now I’ve figured out what’s actually happening. Jim, any ideas before I head back to my dealer are so appreciated. My dealer is very experienced (25 years), but any information I take could help. I’m still making big payments and this is just disheartening. Thank the Lord I have a Skyline S5 to use. Janome 12000 file hierarchy for Embroidery option

What is the file structure necessary for the 12000 embroidery to read from a Flash drive? I currently have the 15000, but my original 12000 is at the shop and we need to read some files from a flash drive. Currently it’s not finding any files on the flash drive, and I have a number of them either under in various folders. It’s a very old 4 GB flash drive. All the files are .JEF. Some are under EMBF directory, some aren’t under any directory, and others are under a TEST directory. My 15000 has no problem with any of the hierarchy.
Any help, thoughts would be appreciated. Also, what would be a good price to sell this machine? It appears to me that its value has diminished with the advent of the S9 machine.

If you open the door, behind the #3 threading site you will see that the thread comes up around a wire-like thing that faces downward. Next to that is a silver metal tab. I found that for some reason my thread danced around and got caught behind it. I finally pressed in the tab every so slightly and the thread no longer popped out of the takeup lever. Don't ask me why or how but it works fine now. Hope this can solve your problem.

I constantly have the same issue. I have had this machine for several years now but it is only the last few months this has become a problem. I have not you done the updates or anything so that has no bearing on the problem.

I had this same problem to the point where the dealer replaced the whole mechanism (takeup lever etc) and got it home and it did the same thing again, very frustrating! One person told me a quick fix (an employee of the dealer), she said to thread it wrong and that is instead of going from step 3 to 4 over the takeup lever you go 4 to 3 over the takeup lever which makes an X under the makeup lever, now I know everyone is going to say no, no, no but this is the only way I could sew without it coming out.....UNTIL the update, since then it's been fine and no problems...I think there might even be a photo in the group photos when I was asking for help back in the day. QUILTING UPDATE

I recently had my Janome 15000 machine updated in September and everything including the threader is working perfectly. Needless to say, I'm extremely pleased with the upgrade and my Dealer credited me for the HP Needle Plate and Foot that I purchased several months ago. I absolutely love that Needle Plate & Foot. Perfection at its best! My good friend just had her machine updated at the same Dealer. When she arrived back home her needle threader was not working and now the machine won't sew. From what she has told me there are thread nests under the bobbin case as well as pieces of thread and the machine makes that "grinding" noise. Is this a parts problems or perhaps something else? She has checked the Bobbin Case for burrs and changed the needle, etc. Thank you for all that you & Diane do to help everyone on this list. Bernie/SC It's hard to tell from the description, but it is clearly something that will need dealer attention. Thread nests normally happen due to mis-threading the top thread, not having the thread in the take-up lever, or having something stuck in the tension that holds it open.

Janome 12000 red/yellow bobbin cases - embroidery

Hi Jim and all you other wonderful, knowledgeable people. I have been using the yellow dot holder for everything (machine embroidery, straight sewing) as this is the only one that seems to work in my machine correctly. As soon as I put the red dot holder in, after a few stitches both with straight sewing and machine embroidery, it starts to break threads and break needles. I have absolutely no problems when using the yellow dot bobbin case. I have already had one red dot holder replaced because of a burr, but the replacement red one has not worked, so I have been using the yellow one for everything I do. Recently when my machine came back from being repaired (different issue, shoddy previous repair work) and serviced, ALL factory settings were placed back to default as part of the fix. I was chastised by the service man for using the yellow bobbin case and was told I must always use the red bobbin case. He put in the red bobbin case at the time. As soon as the machine was returned to me I test it on straight stitching and machine embroidery and I was having the same issue. I then put in the yellow case and have been flying along nicely in that way. Every time I take the machine in to get something done I am always chastised for using the yellow dot bobbin case and it gets removed by them and the red one put in. I need a definitive answer now as this is starting to drive me up the wall. If there is an issue with the settings that the red bobbin case will not work, then how can that be when the machine was set to factory defaults at the last repair/service. Following this recent repair the machine has been working perfectly, just without using the red bobbin case. Thanks all. Regards Irene Lowe Melton, Victoria, Australia The tension in the "red dot" case is adjusted to be optimal for both regular sewing and embroidery. However it is based on using Janome bobbin thread. Other types of bobbin thread may need additional tension, which is what the yellow dot case is for. From the description of your problem, it sounds like you have either been given the wrong red dot case for your machine, or there is hook damage that only shows up with the normal tension of the red dot case. I would suggest removing the plate and bobbin case and examining the hook rase that the bobbin case sits on. Use strong light and a magnifying glass to look for burrs, pits, or gouges. These can sometimes be buffed out, but in bad cases it is necessary to replace the hook race. If you don't find anything stay after your dealer and don't leave the shop until you have a working red dot case.

I joined the 500e Facebook group as I couldn’t find a Yahoo group for this machine. Woodrow crafts on You Tube have done quite a few videos for the 500e which I found very useful.

I’ve been using Isacord for years with no problems, so I’m guessing the sudden birds nests in the bobbin are from something else. If the bobbin case isn’t on exactly right, could that be it? I noticed when the dealer replaced a couple of parts, there’s now a metal “stop” instead of a plastic knob. I finally got the machine going again, but there has to be a way to put the bobbin case in so it sits entirely in the machine. It took me over an hour to get it right. Luckily it was a practice run, because just before the last color, the fabric came unhooped. Can someone save me from myself? Thanks.
