Re: 15000 update
Cathy
My machine was not properly upgraded. The needle threader was not replaced to the new one with the two rivets and I was not given a new P foot. That is why the needle threader did not work. This has now been resolved.

Re: Machine freezing

Sue,
During the first In the Hoop Quilting Project I saw Diane use thread basting for a quilt. I had a very large quilt backed with Cuddle fleece to quilt and used the thread basting technique she used. It was great! No stuck fingers and I was able to baste the whole thing at once and very, very quickly too. I used 12 wt thread and a needle in which the thread is popped into the top. Amazing. I will probably never use those quilt pins again and I'm tired of the smell and glue all over the place too! I had a can of 505 foam all out at me once. What a mess. No more!

Re: Machine freezing
Sue Raabe <susies.stitches@...>
Loved all your responses! I can face any kind of repair, as long as I don't need a new machine. Since there really isn't a replacement on the market yet, I couldn't even buy a trade in 🤔 Does anyone have any suggestions for free motion quilting with something safer than safety pins? It's would be pretty awkward not to let her use it again, but I can't put my machine in jeopardy! We tried a sample while reading the manual. but there were no pins involved. Does the P foot from the S9 work like the new one for the 15000? The dealer made me promise to throw out the old one after he did the update, but when I got home, it wasn't on the machine. Since I lose things so easily, I can't assume I didn't get it, and I'm embarrassed to tell him I can't find it. Maybe I'll just buy one somewhere else, and not mention it. I don't want him to think I'm questioning whether he gave it to me. Thanks again for all the advice. Will let everyone know what was wrong after Wednesday. Sue Raabe susies.stitches@...

Re: Win10 and HL - New question for 15000 updated / upgraded
gbo4
Jim, I've searched the conversations and found / tried all of the above mentioned solutions / sites. After EmbLink took over, the images of .jef in Windows 10 explorer are no longer visible, except as a flower icon. I can, however, see .hus / .pes files, etc., so I have cleared the explorer cache, reset the view in properties, etc. I have Premier + Embroidery installed and use it regularly. I think this is where the conflict resides, however, I have been unable to resolve the issue. JAI tech support has not responded to my email. The only other thing I can think of is where the HorizonLink files should reside on the hd. Currently, it is installed C:\Users\user\Horizon Link Suite_v1.31. Is this the problem? I appreciate any ideas you may have. Thanks, Georgia I think that this may be the single most annoying "feature" of Windows, in all versions. You install a program. The icons reflect that program and clicking on them opens it. Cool, this just works. Then you install a new program that handles the same types of files. It changes the icons the first program put in, and now wants to open those files. The first program is left out in the cold. It looks like Horizon Link Suite has taken over the JEF file association. This page will help you restore it: https://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-set-default-programs-in-windows-10/

Re: Anyone have problem with the update for the 15000?
Anne Parker
I'm beginning to think I won't bother with the update - haven't actually installed the one for couching either. What benefit does this upgrade give you? I'm probably only really thinking about it as my machine is in storage, and given the hic-cups we have had with our house sale it is seriously likely that I won't get it unpacked again until about March next year. I have no real problem with the needle threader. Only very occasionally it hasn't worked, and that has been as far as I can remember when I have changed needle. I guess it puts you off changing the needle, but that is the only glitch. It works perfectly and does all I want it to do - so - can people tell me what benefits the upgrade has given you that you actually use? Is the upgrade worth the cost of paying for it? Barb Engvall
Mine is just coming back to the store from the repair shop and they will do the update on Monday and I will pick it up on Wednesday. Based on some of these reports I think I will take the embroidery unit with me to make sure that it works ok since I am 2 hours over a now snowy mountain pass to get back to them! Appreciate the feedback!

I had my 15000 updated and I bought the upgrade package. I went on a quilting retreat last weekend and sewed for hours with out any problems. The needle threader worked every time.

I used continuous quilting designs with my embroidery unit on a quilt and it worked wonderfully. The quilt was pieced by someone else in the quilt guild and the blocks were pieced, appliquéd and some embellishment but the embroidery machine created great quilting designs in each block. I did some walking foot quilting and a lot of piecing with the quarter inch foot. I haven’t tried out Horizon Link Suite yet but I did update it from the file that Janome emailed me after the tech at the shop called them to register my machine as updated. My tech also said his workbench looked like a snowstorm after cleaning my machine, I did warn him that I had been sewing a lot of flannel recently. So far I am a happy camper. I do know that there will come a time when I can’t haul the 15000 around but for now I rather sew on it more than my Skyline 7 which is a good machine or my old Pfaff. Happy stitching, Estelle

Thanks for sharing with us. I hope more people let us know how it’s going. My dealer hasn’t gotten the parts yet, so I’m still waiting. My old needle threader is still working, but I had to take it to the shop several times before they fixed it. Cas

Re: Machine freezing
Sue Raabe <susies.stitches@...>
Thank you for saving me from all sorts of imagined ills and remedies! The dealer is preparing for his semi annual sale, so I will take it in Wednesday morning. I don’t mind waiting, since I know it will be in good hands. After the update, the needle threader works perfectly. Before, I needed to leave a little tail for it to work, and after reading about all the problems, was happy that way. The dealer had to convince me to change it! I cut it with the thread cutter, and it’s perfect. This is my 4th Janome, and have been happy with all of them. My dealer is more than fair, so I never have to question his recommendations. The only drawback to the 15000 is it’s weight. Even taking it in for service is difficult, hence my purchase of the S9! Still heavy for me, but manageable. After this though, no more letting anyone sew over pins ☺️ Sue Raabe

That happens here too. After the vibration it sometimes works. If I use it soon after it usually behaves doesn’t complain and works.
