Happy Thanksgiving to all my American Friends

Cheryl Paul

Happy Thanksgiving to all on the forum.  I am so grateful that I have the privilege to be in this great country visiting on you holiday.  As many of you know we celebrate Thanksgiving in Canada on the second Monday in October.  I was thankful then as I am now for good friends, good food, good health and so much more.

Re: For After the US Thanksgiving...MBX upgrade question

Taking a pause from cooking...
Actually it did not come with a separate CD for upgrading the dongle (like my v4 to v4.5 upgrade had).  It just has the new dongle and the Digitizer MBX version 4.5 disc.  The install instructions in the book say to install the program disc then when prompted plug in both dongles at the same time and it will update the dongle (not specifying which).  End of instructions.  But I think I better understand what will happen based in your response...that it will code the new dongle and that is the one I will use in the future.  And when I put in one my new computer sometime next year, I should only have to use the disc and the new dongle to complete that install.

Also, thanks for the tip about uninstalling v3 first, I had wondered and had already backed up the designs, etc.

Back to the grill...

Hi Jim,
You did a great job of guiding me through my upgrade from Digitizer v4 to v4.5 a while back...now I have another conundrum.

For a bunch of reasons I won't go into but which make perfect sense for me at this moment in time, I decided to go ahead and upgrade my other full copy of Digitzer Pro 3.0 that was on my laptop to MBX v4.5 and skip the forthcoming v5 upgrade for either of my computers (which I'm probably going to be upgrading in the next year to 18 months).

When I got the upgrade package, of course it is a different approach to the upgrade than what I had done before. This upgrade actually gives me a second dongle. I understand the part in the instructions about attaching both dongles during the upgrade, but once the upgrade is complete, which one becomes the dongle I use when I actually start up the program. The reprogrammed old one, or the new "upgrade dongle."

Thanks, Happy Thanksgiving...and I too echo the others when I say Thank You for everything you and Diane do.

Regards,
Pixey

Momentarily distracted at the possibility of an "upgraded dongle", Jim manages to stammer:
The upgrade you have has a CD and a DVD. The CD contains software that extracts information from your existing V3 dongle and then initializes the essentially blank V4.5 dongle that came with the package. This process is only done once. When it finishes the old V3 dongle will no longer work and the new V4.5 dongle will be the "official" dongle that you use. You will only do this part of the upgrade once.

You will actually install MBX 4.5 using the DVD. I would suggest uninstalling V3 before you install 4.5, just to eliminate any old cruft. Make sure all your designs are backed up first, just in case.

To the Group,

I am especially thankful for such a great group.  I learn something new every week.  Thanks to all of you!

I am very thankful, even more, for Jim and Diane for providing such detailed and useful information on using all aspects of our machines.  It is much appreciated.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!

I have done lots of cards.  I hoop a soft n sheer or no show mesh stabilizer.  The lightly spray the card and
lay it centered over the stabilizer.  I have all the card sets from Anita Goodesign and from other designers, they
are digitized especially for cards so the designs are not very stitch intense.  I use a 75/11 sharp needle.
After it is finished I trim around the stabilizer and use double sided tape to adhere scrapbook cardstock paper to
the inside of the embroidery. That way it covers the back of the embroidery and does not add a lot of bulk to the card.
I also print a nice verse either directly onto the card before I embroidery it on on a piece of matching cardstock paper
“I would match the paper I used to back the embroidery” and then use double sided tape to adhere it.

I love making cards, for baby gifts I make a onesie and then use the same design on a card, people are usually
very impressed with that.

I'm wondering if anyone has ever embroidery on card and if so have they any hints and tips to share.

I would like to make my daughter-in-law a birthday card and I've not tried it before.

I've read a bit and the recommend seems to be to use small size needles to reduce holes but not sure from there on.  How do I fix the card in the hoop to embroider - double sided tape?

I have the 14000 and the embroidery Couching is already installed on the machine. There are 10 patterns which are used with 1 of 2 Couching feet ( 1 is for fine Couching thread and the other is for thicker Couching thread). Also included are a yarn guide bar and a yarn guide attachment that fits onto the needle clamp screw.
There is also a foot for free motion Couching.

rom my understanding there are now going to be 3 methods of couching.

1. In sewing mode with the cording or beading feet.
2. Free motion couching with a foot that has 2 attachments to take different widths of cords
3. A new embridery couching foot to be used with the embroidery function

The last was mentioned on Janome Life with the info about the machine update, and the post has since been taken down - I assume until the update is freely available.

I embroidered some Christmas cards a few years ago. It seems that you need a design that has been digitised specifically for embroidering on card stock to avoid punching out the design from the card. If you go to emblibrary.com and type in card stock in the search bar they have designs for embroidering on card. They are mostly Christmas but there are a few for other occassions.

Cordless Iron Convenience

cas@...

I use a cordless iron and love that I can use my whole ironing board, which I made out of a yard sale desk.  Sometimes I want to sit it down for just a second, and realized I could use a silicone hot pad.  My model fits into the base a specific way so it’s nice to sit it on the pad for just a second, like when I’m opening a seam.  I’ll upload a pic.  By the way, I highly recommend the iron in the picture, it’s great for quilting, really heats up fast, and stays hot for a long time!  I see they have a new model with modern colors, but I love my purple!  This is where I got mine cheap:

Happy Thanksgiving tomorrow everyone!  Have a blessed, safe, and peaceful weekend.

You’re welcome!   Speaking of organization, I use different pins for different projects and think I could fit more than one little plastic box in the bowl too.  I buy the magnetic bowls real cheap at Harbor Freight.

I bought one of those at the auto supply store and they work great!  Thanks for the tip about using the plastic piece.  I put a small piece of fabric in mine as it wasn't easy to see the pins otherwise but this would keep them better organized!

Re: Janome 15000 New Update Installed

Bernie Giannotti

Now I'm confused but then, that's normal for me.  I turned on
my machine to make sure what Version the update was that my Dealer installed.
Sure enough, there I was on the bottom right side of the screen it shows  "Ver.2.10."

I wish that there was a site showing everything that this update does. Does anyone know of such a place?

Thank you.

Having been things and seen places, Jim says:
As is typical for Janome, there is no list of changes that are included in the 2.1 update. The main thing I have seen mentioned is support for a yet-to-be-seen Embroidery Couching foot. There are 10 Embroidery Couching designs included with the download, due this weekend. Once it goes "live" perhaps there will be more details about what it brings.
