FMQ on the 12000

Steph Tidwell

I am trying to FMQ and when I press the t-shirt and go into the quilting and it drops the feed dogs.  I do have the right foot on..but every so oftern I get a beep..then it says "Warning...make sure the correct foot is attatched"  It gets very annoying.  Sometimes it happens 5 min in or every few seconds.

What am I doing wrong.  I even tried exiting out of the tshirt and just dropping the feed dogs.  I still get the beep.

Hoping to spare you the guilt trip, Jim says:

One thing about technology is that it seems to cause people to assume that when it doesn't work they did something wrong. You are doing nothing wrong. The problem is a misadjusted sensor that is right on the very ragged edge of being set correctly. From time to time it drifts enough to tell the machine that something is wrong and you get the message. This particular problem was rampant in the early days of the 11000 and it was caused by the linkage in the presser foot knee lifter being slightly out of adjustment. That's probably not the problem on the 12000, but it is a problem with some sensor involving the height of the presser foot. Your dealer should address this.

Thanks Andrea, I purchased a few of them; who can go wrong at $.75 and sets too. Good to know you have used some of them and they worked up fine.

I have the foot book app which says this will fit the 12000 but my Janome agent has looked it up in her book and it says not for the 12000, so she sold me what looks exactly like it minus the open toe and plastic foot, it says QBS on the side. So I am asking why does Janome say it doesn't fit the 12000 if it does. Naomi

Unfortunately this question needs to be addressed to Janome. We've already established that it works.

Jim,

I think that the 12000 owners would appreciate an APP, but the problem would then be that not all own and iPad and many will have an Android device - what to do then?  I'm not a software engineer or writer - how difficult would it be to have both?  - just a question that I've wondered about for years.

Cheryl - Saskatoon

Addressing the eternal question, Jim says:
Basically the answer is that we already have both - the DVDs are essentially a website on a disk. We could also make a website that is actually a website, but it immediately gets complicated. I made the DVDs work with just 4 browsers, for both Mac and PC compatibility. About 10% of the purchasers had problems of one sort or another due to their particular version of Windows, their browser, or other factors that made their computer "different". I have no desire to go down that road again.

Apple has been heavily criticized for having a "closed" system - you do it their way or you don't do it at all. The positive side of this is "it just works". In the case of app videos every video is stored 5 times in files that are 10 seconds long. We start playing with the best quality video for the current connection, whether it be cellular data or WiFi. Depending on how well that 10 second slice works, the next piece will be of lower or higher quality. On a really bad cellular connection we can even degrade down to audio only. To do this from a website would require exotic plugins for each browser and operating system, which we don't have the resources for. By using the Apple software we know that if the network is up the video will play.

There's also an issue of screen size. We base our shooting on what size the output screen will be. In the case of various computers, and Android in particular, the sizes are all over the map and video quality may be awful.

We're well aware that not everyone has an iPad, and that's fine. What we are considering is having two different methods for distributing video:
1. Via an iPad app - simple tap and watch interface.
2. Via video files on a USB drive in MP4 and AVI formats. The user will have to figure out how to play them on whatever equipment that want to use. I'm really ambivalent about this, because I envision a legion of "How do I get this video on my Fleegmeister 3000 tablet?" questions. Most Mac and Windows PCs will play them by just double clicking, but tablets are a different animal. I'd much rather have a method where the user can play them with no particular skill or knowledge required. Unfortunately the world of computers is far too complex for that!

I am like others I have a 12000 and and ipad air but still prefer to use my computer (not a mac) which has a 22 inch screen against the ipad screen. I have ordered the footbook for computer rather than use it on my ipad which I did purchase as well just to take with me when I go to Janome shop. So a 12000 app for me would have to be available for pc not just ipad. Naomi

Hi thanks for your reply. Yes I did that but it is not there but it is in Horizon Link. Jim suggested I download again. I have put the design into the r18 hoop on horizon link and sent it to machine and I just need to do the tracing thing and see how that works.  Cheers Colleen B

The other day I downloaded a A Good design bookmark and put it in Horizon Link and changed the hoop size to R18 because it came up on the hoop list I then transferred it to the machine and there it was just fitted nicely but on the machine no R18 size came up. I have tried to look for the download for the R18 hop but cannot find it on the internet. Not sure what to do here. Will it be okay if I just go ahead and sew it out. There is no room to enlarge. Al help will be greatly appreciated. Colleen B Sent from my iPad

Hoping to help, Jim says:
Your machine may need to be updated. See this page for instructions and software. If your machine is V1.2 (12000) or V2.0 (15000) already then you need to turn the page on the hoop screen to find RE-18.

Thanks, I just went on there and bought some at .75.  If they don't work, well then I am not out too much.

Good morning all

Jim said: So what do you 12000 owners think? Would a 12000 app be of any interest?

I’ve just purchased the Janome 12000 and a few months ago purchased the DVDs which I have found absolutely wonderful. A big thank you to Jim and Diane. Like a lot of us I have an iPad and I would love an app for the 12000 with content that updates. I’m actually thinking of purchasing the 15000 app just for the new quilting content Jim purchased the other day, as I’m sure I could apply some of the principles on the 12000, but an app specifically for the 12000 would be just great.

Maree in Townsville, North Queensland, Australia

Stepping into the Sales Prevention department, Jim says:

Don't buy the 15000 app! We will be making a 12000 app that will have the content of the DVDs as well as the FMQ videos. If you can hold off just a bit we can save you a lot of money. Of course if you've hit the lottery we will withdraw that suggestion!

Janome Quilt Binder set for MC15000?

Julie

Jim - is there now a Quilt Binder set for the MC15000?  I had one that fit my MC12000 but just realized it's not going to fit the 15k.  Has Janome come out with one yet?  I only had a chance to use the one I bought once and it is a wonderful binder - so am very disappointed I can't use it on the 15k.

Trying to avoid further disappointment, Jim says:

There is now a binder for the EasySet bobbin machines (9900, 15000, Skyline S5). It's part number 202211008. It's also $200. An alternate method that would allow you to use the one you have is to buy a 12000 needle plate. It will attach to that and the 12000 plate fits on the 15000. We tried it - it works.

I can't seem to find the update for the MBX RE18 hoop.  I have the 15000, have updated the Horizon Suite Link with no problems.  I have Digitizer MBX V4.0m R2, laptop windows 8.1. I have been to the Janome site and can not find an update. If someone would be so kind to point me in the right direction where to find the update.  I have a design ready to embroider. If more information is needed let me know.

Thank you,

Re: High Shank or Low Shank

Anne Parker <annegparker@...>

Cas

Do you know if that foot holder fits the 15000?  The shape of it and the way it fits on makes me think it would put the foot too far forward so the needle would hit any foot attached to it?

I have a shank like that and that's what happens when I try and use my Elna 7mm feet on it.  However I have found that on that non-Janome foot holder I can use my vintage Husqvarna feet.  These feet have a shorter distance from the pin position to the needle hole, so the fact that the non-Janome shank pushes them forward actually puts the hole in the foot over the needle hole - and they work! The cording foot is fantastic.  I don't know if modern Husquavrna feet are like this though.

Consulting with the Time Team, Jim says:
Elna feet made by the original Elna, i.e. before Janome started using the name, do not line up correctly. We learned that a number of years ago trying to use Elna feet that Janome did not have. If you use the foot holder 830504017 (MC11000) or 846572004 (7700) the 7mm feet do work, just only at 7mm width. I am certain that older Elna feet will NOT work on either of these foot holders, just as they did not work on the original 7mm low shank foot holder we tested on.

Jim,
You have to remember that the iPad that came with the 15000 was not a newer generation one. It does NOT support Airplay or other apps which were developed after this older generation of iPads.

Hating to be argumentative, Jim nevertheless counters with this:
The "oldest" iPad provided with the 15000 was iPad 2. This version does support Airplay, which we used to make the app videos for the 15000. All subsequent versions also support Airplay. You can even update iPad 2 to iOS 8, which is the latest version of iOS.

Thank you Jim, for all you do for us.  You are a wealth of knowledge.  I just love being in this group!

I too bought a shank for my 7mm feet after the suggestions on this group even when Janome said I couldn't get one for my 12000.

I think Paul is asking if the My 15000 app would be beneficial for 12000 owners since the machines have a lot in common.

Striving for clarification, Jim says:
I wouldn't recommend it for 12000 owners. A 12000 app will definitely be coming as soon as we can schedule it.

Thank you Jim! I don’t know why Janome insists they have nothing and won’t consider MAKING something. I mean how hard is it to manufacture a foot—a clip on like the QO or QC but made of metal with a ring. Sheesh. I have to decide if I’m going to stay with my loaner 15000 from Janome or go back tot he 8900…… if I stay, then I’ll get the QB-S.
