You're right, of course. If you HAD to change the plate, it should include the bobbin case change in the steps. However they only tell you to change the bobbin case if you are not using Janome bobbin thread. We have found that you can also use the normal bobbin case with pre-wound bobbins that have Robison-Anton bobbin thread.

Wouldn't it make more sense to combine these two: remove the standard
needle plate, change the bobbin case, put in the single hole plate.
