Granted I don’t have any actual experience on this, but it strikes me that you might want to try treating each hook separately and use a button foot, sewing it on like a two hole button.

A small zigzag (2.0,2.0) would be the ideal stitch to use but a straight stitch is better than nothing. I have a 12000 and a 9400QCP.
