Unfortunately the removal and replacement of the stitch plate did not work. Off to the technician. Hopefully not back to Janome. Thanks for the suggestion.

The message telling you to raise the needle means the power-on self-test failed. There are many possible causes for that, which requires having the machine to diagnose. One thing you might try is to remove the needle plate, then replace it being sure to press down on the circle on the plate. If that doesn’t fix it you’ll need to take it to a technician.
