Never thought of baby oil.  A dealer told me to use Goo Gone on the machine surface, and it took the finish off.  (It wasn’t a Janome dealer, or Janome machine).  William’s ‘lectric shave works well for me.  Also tried Dawn Power Dissolver, and that was ok.
