I found the problem.
Yahoo has my "yahoo email" and my "gmail email" which were linked in the past and I used my gmail email as a login to yahoo groups all the time.
That link (or verification of that link) disappeared... I was able to receive emails from the groups and post my replies, but I was treated as a non-member at the actual yahoo-group website - not able to see the pics etc...
I had to login to yahoo under yahoo email, verify the link between the emails again and that's it.
