Thanks also for this information. I mount the ntc on the correct pad next to the final stage fet. So the higher rated caps are only used on the right side of the board around the DC/DC converter which finally will be closed with the metal shield. 

At the moment the board is nearly finished. Only about 10 electronical parts must be done. The filters arrived a few days ago and are now mounted. Digikey sent me wrong caps. Ceramic caps with unknown value instead of the 100uF tantal caps.. Because I have only higher voltage rated ones here from another project they are to big for the pads. So I have to wait for replacement from digikey. 

Also not mounted are some parts in the final stage. The transformer as6an example. But for rx tests I don't need it. I think I finish the full board until end of week. And I hope my pic prog arrives soon. I ordered from Ali and wait now since oder a month. The same with the oled display. I read that the oled must be installed also for starting the Odyssey. 

I hope I made all correct and all QFN and the bga are soldered well, than I can work with upload firmware. BGA and QFN are parts I soldered the first time with this project. I never soldered this case before...
Also the sane with quartus, I never worked with a fpga before. On the meantime I wrote a small program for the max II with quartus. This seems to work. The first USB Blaster I got was damaged. It was replaced now by the seller and the new one works fine. If the board is ready but the pic programmer hasn't arrived, I think it's also possible to Programm the fpga?

I'll see. Otherwise I look around, maybe someone near from me has a pic prog... 

BOM: I think the bom file is not 100% accurate with the newest board. There are some parts on it which don't used in the new board. There are pads with 25R. I think 25 ohms. I only have 24.1 ohms, for example. 

Also the designator of 4.7 ohms in the gates of the fet are corrected. On my boats 100n is marked.. This must be 100nH I guess. 

I also have 100p caps orderd, but I don't used it, there's no pads for it, correct? 

If I finished, I try to make a corrected bom for this board and upload it here.

Hello David, 

Thanks for this info. I searched after the hint with the zener diode, because someone wrote, that I have to do è work around if there's no pad for mountings it. But I have the board with DF-05-18-US. So this is all OK.

Hello, Reto.

If your board on the top right corner has "DF-05-18-US", you don't need to install zenner protecting diode (no place for it).
Also, you can programm PIC in simple high voltage mode.
Yes, the newest version does not have a zenner diode, it was present on all the older boards with no excluding.

Hello, Reto.

Yes, that is marked as *T.

10uF 25 Volts 0806 ceramic capacitor is using on main DC/DC convertor input, because input voltage is around 12 Volts.
All other 10uF 0806 capacitors may be 10 Volts rated or even 6.3.

Hi Rob 

You told me earlier, that I have not the actual Gerber file. So I have now a little bit another layout. You told me about the zehner diode. On my layout there's no place for the Zehner. I think you provided a workaround. I look for this in this forum. I think I'll find it.

I also ordered a 100k ntc, but have no idea where to mount. I also find a difference in my board right of the final stage fets. Above the 18k resistor there's a pad with a dot and the letter T. 
But on the board David shows in his assembly manual this pads don't exist. But the ntc is on the bom file. 

So I'm a bit in trouble where to mount the ntc. 

In my board the modification of the gate resistor instead of a 4.7 ohm resistor to take a 100nH coil is made, the pad has the a designator 100n and not 4.7 as in the assembly manual board. 

So my board cold be a newer version, but I wonder why the pads for the Zehner are not present. 

I have only some small work to do. Some resistors, caps and coils, and the mechanical parts. Rest is soldered. If I have another 3 hours the board will be finished. 

The USB Blaster is here and works (the first was damaged), but I miss the pic programmer, this is on the way since weeks, but not arrived. Without this I can't start the board. So I'm not in hurry to finish it.

I'm near to finish assembling the board. The pictures in your article helps very much, but my board differs from the one of the picture. 
I have a 100kOhm term NTC. I guess it comes right to the final stage fet. There's a pad with a dot and T. Is this correct?

Than I also have two different 10uF caps. 25V and 10V. I can't see any positions for 25V. Maybe I should exchange the 10V with 25V? And the 10V are wrong in the bom?

The 25 Ohm resistor I used a 24.9 Ohm. This should be fine.

Hi Rob, 

I tried this, but it don't works. I got an email from an agent and they told me, that there was en error. 

In the meantime i baked the BGA on the board and mounted som of the QFN's by hot air. In the i40 forum there was a big discussion about how to solder the QFN's without special equipment. 
So I did it like this: I clean the pads, took all tin away, Put solder flux on the pads and a little bit new tin. The same on the QFN, clean and make tin to the pin pads. Again cleaning all. Then I aplly again some flux and put the QFN in place. Than I use the hot air gun (regulated) and heat until the qfn goes down. After that it was soldered. And some tests with the multimeter (diode mode and resistor mode) shows that it was ok. 

I'll do it also with the rest of the QFN. But now I have no time to continue. The project is now on standby until bad weather ;)

Hi David, 

Yes I read it and I have it printed. But I made a sepeate Print of the Picture for assembling, and got the wrong one, sorry for the question. 
At the moment I stop builting, because I must find a better way to solder the QFN's. I have a solution now, and waiting for a part. 
And if the weather get's better the project will be on standby. It's something for rainy times ;)

In their website, they have an option to upload the PCB file directly. Nicole probably deleted the PCB from my order already.

I believe you would be able to upload the latest PCB into their website when ordering a stencil, the website recognized the PCB and generated the stencil order automatically.

Hi David, 

I start the project yesterday with soldering the BGA. It seems to be ok placed, no shorts so far and i can measure some pins working. So I think it's ok. 

I also have your picture from the board in russia. The picture of zhe board where I marked the IC's which are not named on the board. Theres one below a shield on the right side. This has "no name" on the picture.

I don't write since a few days, but the project is no starting. At least 10 Odysseys will be built in HB and DL next weeks. I have all parts (exept the filters, they arrive in 1 or two weeks) here. Also a T962 Oven for soldering the BGA. I planed also to solder a few parts at the same time, some chips, but I can't get a stencil for the board. There seems to give some problems with the file in the GERBER for producing the stencil.

Have you seen this on Skywork page?. Please note: SKY13350-385LF is being discontinued and is not recommended for new designs. The suggested replacements are SKY13453-385LF and SKY13351-378LF.
I hope you haven't bought too many.

I ordered The Stecil, but I think I have to less time for all Parts. It should go fast if the solder paste is applied. I heared it should be "baked" maximum after 30 Minutes. So I think we only place the IC's and maybe resistor networks or other small parts. The rest as usual, soldering manual. 

The project is now on ice because I have to wait for the equipment. And I must do some tests before I produce the Odyssey board. Some tests with smaller PCB's and with less expensive chips. Maybe a UI Board of a Sparrow or something like that.
