Odyssey 2 BPF/PA board

YL2GVC Aivars

Hello! I would like to inform Odyssey folk about possible modification which was made by Yuri EU2AV ;-) He modified Odyssey firmware and it is recognized as Anan7000 now. It was made to work together with BPF/PA board by Yuri EU2AV. This board consist separate BPF for 2 RX channels, 3 stage LPF and PA on RD100, which means 100W. New LPF suppress harmonics to up to 70dB, but not less than 60dB!!! You can get more information from Yuri forum: https://eu2av.ru/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=151&p=824#p824
I will translate text on forum to English a bit later ;-) If you want to get more info, ask me on email ;-)

Hi Doug,
I answered your EMail with my "normal" email Address. But it's possible that the first Answer was with the gmail account. So, you should now have at least one email from me with my personal email address which I read several times a day.

In the meantime I'm working on one of the ody2 (the green board which is the ENIG (gold plated) board). I'll finish it and do some measurements. AT the moment the final stage fet's are missing and the two transformers in the PA. But I got the final stage FET's a few days before so I can finish it.

But it takes some days for a serius finished an measured ody2.

The rest we can discuss over email, otherweise have a look to www.starnet.ch ;) and use the info address, it's also my address, but the one I sent you is the primary address.

Hi together,

That's right ;) the gmail address is my "spam" email address. I use it for registering to different boards and so I don't look regulary to this email. I'll have a look and provide you my main email address.

Reto does not answer me as well. He mentioned something about another main email, but who knows.

Re: Looking for an Odyssey 2

Reto – I made an offer on a board via your private email, but have heard nothing. Maybe it went into your spam folder?

Edited

I have 2 nearly finished ody2 boards. I must only solder the two transformers in the final stage.
On is as spare part for my project. One I could sell if someone makes a good offer 😀

I believe Ody 2 is Icom's inspiration for the 7610.

Hey David,

thanks for the reminder :) As far as I can remember the Ody2 was not on kickstarter. Maybe I confuse myself about that (old man aso). Anyway, wouldn't give it away for whatever reason and at least in my opinion it is well worth so much more than the 500usd I paid for it. Can't thank you enough for putting so much  effort into this radio.

Just for my interrest, what would be a reasonable price? That said I did try to find my email conversation with David but I didn't manage to find it, so I even can't say exactly what I paid for it.

If anyone has a no-longer-used Odyssey 2 they’re willing to release for a reasonable price, I would appreciate an email. Thanks, 73, Randy, K7RAN (k7ran@...)

Re: Project started - BGA stencil querry

Thanks Aivars, this link has answered a lot of questions, I feel a lot more confident in tackling this job now :)

I have most of the equipment here excet the hot air gun nozzle, and am thinking perhaps an RF screening can around the chip sat on the PCB will retain and recirculate the heat to get an even distribution?

The cost of a 'proper' one it's way over the top if you only plan to do this a few times in your homebrew builds.

Hi Sasha!

Actually David made a video about how he does it:

Problem: it is in Russian.

At the same time - you can learn a lot from it - the tools he uses, and the temperatures he runs the rig at .

I have NEVER soldered a BGA device into place - so I am NOT an expert - the method David used was the first I've seen of it.

Hey Kevin,

when it comes to BGA soldering (as far as I can say from my experiences) hot air (at least to me) doesn't sound like a good idea.

Maybe you want to take a look at this:
