Arthur, someone will know the period DX 5287 carried the new Toll livery,
before it was made an ex-toll livery with the interim KiwiRail banner name
replacement.

For those that may not know that's semi-refined Reefton gold ore in the small hoppers further back in the train on its way to Palmerston, or since the train appears to be facing north, empties going the other way.

DX5287 got its corn-cob livery in November 2004.

The KR patches came in shortly after the KR re-brand/Govt buy-back in July 2008

So, a fairly wide potential date-range in this case.

Thank you David, I am a bad note taker.
No 926 was a late afternoon train heading north through Maheno so it
was a good spot for sunny afternoon shot.

Thank goodness that these are gold wagons Peter - at first glance I thought they were ancient 4 wheelers and being pulled by a loco in Toll Livery I was thinking hmmmm 😊)))!
Handy bit of info David.

I was hoping that with the ridiculous price that gold has gotten to that the gold mine at Reefton might be a "goer" - if not now it's probably never sadly

Gold wagons would be very expensive to make, very heavy and not very strong
so that is why they use steel wagons to carry the gold ore. LOL.

There seems to be a reasonable prospect of re-opening the Blackwater Mine at Waiuta near Reefton, if this occurs the gold ore trafficdown to palmerstaon might resume.
