phantom'a' spoken in file names

For some versions of nvda, I have noticed that espeak, though it may affect others too, say, as you save the file an a before the chosen file name.
It sounds sort of like if you call your file fred.mp3, then it says afred.m
However the a is much shorter in nature than a real a would be.
Its not serious, but more strange, has anyone else noticed this?
