The End of an Era
Mack Avery
Catching up on personal email, so I am sad to see NUGA end. I was introduced into NUGA in 2005 when I moved to Anchorage and it was the source of many friendships. I have moved to San Antonio in July of 2021 but I make at least one trip a year to visit family. I wish you all the best and special thanks to the Tibor brothers for all their involvement. Feel free to email me if I can help anyone. Mack Avery II On Jan 10, 2023, at 14:48, Jerry Tibor <jftibor@...> wrote:

Wow! I know I also have been focused on many other things, but I always relate driving from Seward to Anchorage every weekend in 1997-1998 Winter season for the NetWare courses with Tom and then all the weekend classes in 2000 studying together for the big MSCE upgrade test (70-222?) from NT4.0 to 2000 with Beth and the members. I also cannot forget to mention all of the computer build events and giveaways for charity over the years.
Great memories and a great organization. Several other volunteer organizations and charities across the country are seeing a similar trend. We just aren’t getting together like we used to. I will miss you all and hope to run into you again soon! I’m glad the listserv will stay up and running. I do continue to look forward to the technical exchanges and see what you all are up to.
Thank you,
Dave

NUGA began in the late 1980’s as the Novell Users Group of Anchorage. Over many years, it gradually morphed into the Network Users Group Alaska. The constant focus through all of that time has been an emphasis on IT training, education, and community service.
The last few years made it impossible to gather monthly as we always had. Other changes have also happened during this time. Four of the five NUGA board members have now retired and 2 have already moved out of state. This will make it impossible to continue as a group in the way we have in the past.
The NUGA email list will continue since it is hosted by a free service not associated with our website host. Like the AKLUG list, it will continue as a forum for important announcements of interest to the IT community.
Anyone who paid dues for 2021 or 2022 was issued a refund since we didn't have any meetings in either of those years.
All good things must come to an end and it seems the time has come for the end of NUGA. We value all the friendships we have made over more than 30 years and thank you all for your support and attendance at meetings, training events, and community service projects.
Thank you!

Thank you Jerry. NUGA was a very important group for me and the folks involved were instrumental in my professional growth. I joined to get exposure to the IT world and prepare for eventual/possible employment in IT. I did quite a bit of work as an independent contractor for many years, but remain in simulation. The education and encouragement that this group has provided has been immeasurable!

I’m sorry I couldn’t get to more meetings!
Really appreciate all the work done to pull this together over so many years.
If there are others wanting to re-formulate the user group at some point, I would be willing to help out.
