The NUGA Email List is Moving!

All,

 

The NUGA email list has been graciously hosted by the UAA Library since the inception of the list in November of 1997.  Sadly, all good things must come to an end and they are turning down their email list server.  A huge thank you to the UAA Library for almost 20 years of email list support!

 

We were very fortunate to find another host that will give us the same level of simple email list serving and charge us the same amount the UAA Library was!

 

You have all been subscribed to this new list and the address to post to the NUGA list is now nuga@groups.io.  If your spam filter is sensitive, you may want to add an exception for that address.  Others can join the list by sending an email to nuga+subscribe@groups.io.

 

That’s about all there is to it.  We will have a forward in place on the old email list address until they turn their server down, but that should give everyone time to update the address in their email.

 

Please let me know if you have any questions and I hope to see you all at our next meeting!

Hi Royce,

 

That is an excellent question.  Groups.io can import our archive, but only if it is in mbox format.  Unfortunately, the UAA Library list server saves the archive as html.  If anyone knows how to convert an html archive to mbox format, please email me directly.

 

If that is not possible or practical, we plan to put the html archive file on the NUGA website so it will still be accessible.

Nortel Option 11C parts available

I have decommissioned an old Nortel Option 11C. I have most types of line cards available and several good power supplies and cabinets. If anyone still maintains this type of gear and/or would like some spares, let me know. Otherwise it will be "recycled".

If you know of any better target audiences, let me know. What with network convergence, there isn't much difference between the 'phone' guys and the 'network' guys.

looking for robot judges

This weekend is the Lego Robotics statewide championship & we need judges for the research project & robot design sections.  The robots are autonomous & built/programmed by 9-14 year old children from all over Alaska.

Our biggest need is for judges that can commit to be there all day. No experience necessary - we provide training! Please have any interested adults or young adults contact me directly at rsoza@... or 907-523-2334. There is also a post to recruit volunteers on the FIRST In Alaska Facebook page that you can share! Without enough volunteers, we simply can't pull of the event. 


General Schedule:

  • 8 AM - Doors open. Drop consent & release forms at the registration desk & get your team set up at your pit table.
  • 8:15 AM - General Volunteer meeting in the Competition Area. 
  • 8:25 AM - Coaches Meeting in the Competition Area (opposite side from the Volunteers). One coach per team MUST be there. 
  • 8:45 AM - Judging starts. 
  • 9:00 AM - Practice Matches start. Please note that judging sessions take priority over robot matches. If judging is running late and you are going to miss your match OR if matches are running late and your are going to miss judging - please skip your match and just see the Lead Queuer later to reschedule your practice match. She will work you in.
  • 11:30 AM - Competition Area Volunteers Lunch
  • 12:15 PM - Opening Ceremony in the Competition Area - All teams and volunteers should attend.
  • 12:30 PM - Official Matches Begin
  • 4:40 PM - Elimination Round & Project Showcase
  • 5:00 PM - Closing Ceremony
  • 6:00 PM - Load Out

It's at Goldenview Middle School in Anchorage.  We had elimination rounds out in Wasilla in December; all over the state actually.  This event Saturday is to decide which team will represent Alaska at the nationals.

This year, we will be at a new location – 49th State Brewing Company!  As in years past, this restaurant will let us order individually off the menu.

 

You can do your part by joining us for no-host dinner and cocktails to celebrate this milestone.  Guests are welcome!

Topic:  Dell – Remote Office/Branch Office (ROBO) Offerings

 

Presentation:

 

We will be talking about Dell’s Remote Office/Branch Office (ROBO) offerings, specifically around the VRTX platform.  With so many remote offices around the state, there is a lot of value in having a small, virtualization-capable box that can be managed from a home office.  Dell is seeing a ton of value with these devices all over the state.

 

Presented by:   Eric Emerton, Enterprise Systems Consultant – PacNW, Dell

 

About Eric:

Eric has been working in Alaska IT for the last 15 years from helpdesk to operations management.  With Dell, he is a sales engineer who helps companies both in the public and commercial sectors select the right datacenter technologies from Dell’s large portfolio of servers, storage, and networking gear.
