Field Day Operations
As you know the annual ARRL Field Day is right around the corner.
Given the continued issues with COVID-19 and the fact that so many
of our dedicated members have risk factors that make this disease
deadly, the executive committee of the club has decided to cancel
our normal Field Day operations this year. We are encouraging all
member to participate in Field Day from your homes using whatever
emergency setups you have access to even if it is for a short time
on Saturday or Sunday. This will be a great opportunity to test
how well you can operate from your home QTH in the case of a
widespread emergency or pandemic!
From the ARRL concerning modifying our Field Day operations:
Social distancing and state and local requirements very likely will impact just how — and even whether — you are able to participate in Field Day this year. ARRL continues monitoring the coronavirus situation, paying close attention to information and guidance offered by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). If social distancing means that Class A with a 30-member team set up in a city park won’t work this year, then it’s time for a Plan B. Part of the Field Day concept has always been adapting your operation to the situation at hand. At its heart, Field Day is an emergency communication demonstration. Field Day rules are flexible enough to allow individuals and groups to adjust their participation and strategies in a way that still addresses their needs while being fun. Some possibilities:
We encourage everyone to operate from your own home on emergency
power using your call sign even if it is only for a little while
on Saturday or Sunday. We can discuss further the use of the club
call before Field Day. However, when you submit your logs, do not
forget to put that you are a member of the North Augusta Belvedere
Radio Club in the log submission.
We will send more information on how to participate in this
modified version of Field Day as the date gets closer.
In the next few months, we will also discuss the possibility of
holding a Winter Field Day operation since we are not holding one
during the summer.
