LAST CALL FOR NABRC LOGO SHIRTS

I have requests for shirts from George Franklin (1@ XL), Rodney Tanner (1@ XL), Marc Powers (1@ XL)
Shirt order will be sent in immediately after the Sept club meeting. I will provide an estimated delivery once the order is placed.

Recently I have been asked by new members about getting our club polo shirts. As most of you know we sourced our shirts from Embroider This right here in Aitken. BTW, the embroidery is done on-site in Aiken by Lenore not in the far east.

I contacted Brad Lewis (owner) about another order. Unfortunately our previous shirt is discontinued. Brad has found a similar alternative (see attached picture ,100% cotton, with breast pocket light tan color). The color is very similar but of course unlikely to be an exact match. Brad has quoted prices shown below that are almost unchanged from our previous order years ago. Included in the price is embroidering name & callsign on left side and NABRC logo over the pocket.

Sizes Small thru XL      $38.33 including tax
                          XXL     $40.49 including tax

As before UP FRONT PAYMAENT is NOT REQUIRED.  I just need a COMMITMENT TO BUY.

Obviously, I need quantity, size, name (as to be shown shirt) and callsign.

I will take commitments & shirt info by reply email or you can see me at the Sept club Zoom meeting. I will place the order Sept 17.

Bahamas

Has anybody seen any hams transmitting from the Bahamas on FT8 lately.  The last time I seen anybody transmitting
from the Bahamas was February 2018.

Re: Women has ham shut down his radio

I like where the ham operator was willing to work with the woman and do tests to see if his radio was interfering with her pump.
She declined to do so. I think she did so because it would show his radio was not interfering with her pump. She used her pump to get  the HOA to have him take down his antenna. He moved into a neighborhood that did not allow outside antennas unless he had approval from the HOA committee to put up the antenna. She saw it as an eye sore to her and came up with the idea his radio was interfering with her pump to get the antenna removed.

I had a similar incident when I got into ham radio.  I had a neighbor complain I was interfering with his stove. But he came over to my house to tell me I was interfering with the stove because a repairman saw my antenna. It came to be that we both had the same stove. I told him I would be having the same problem when I was transmitting. I found out his son had a CB radio running an amp. Never had any more problems with my neighbor.  I ask people in my neighborhood about my antennas. They said they really paid no attention to the antennas and had no problem with them and I live in an HOA.

Thank you, from Jim N2ZZ

James F. Boehner, MD

It has been a while, but I wanted to thank all that signed my petition for Director of the Roanoke Division.  It was accepted, and my 300-word statement and picture has been sent to the ARRL. (Initially rejected, but resubmitted) Ballots will be coming out the end of this month, and early October.   Please VOTE and send them in ASAP.  Please spread the word.  If you have ARRL Member friends elsewhere in the division (SC, NC, VA, WV), please reach out to them and ask for support.

VA has the most members, NC the second, SC next and then WV.  Traditionally, VA has the most elected directors.  I think I was the first Director from SC ever, and that is because I ascended from Vice Director when the Director (from VA) retired.  I need as much help as I can get.

My election website is on my QRZ.COM page, and I am on Facebook  www.facebook.com/jim.n2zz .  Great video on Facebook and there will be copy up there soon.  More venues to come!

Thanks especially to Carl KP2L for passing my petition around!

Supplies

Rodney Tanner

To fellow hams you may want to buy a package or two of toilet paper every time you go the
grocery store and stock up just in case there becomes another toilet paper storage again.
I have been stocking up. You may want to get paper towels also. All it takes someone to
start a rumor.

Fellow Hams,
I just got the news that this live event is cancelled for this year. I was told that covid 19 is starting to ding our volunteers.

Thank you for stepping up and volunteering in these trying times.  Hope we can do it next year. Be careful and be safe.

Carl Juvrud KP2L

I am still looking for a few more volunteers for this event.  It is Saturday Sept. 25th. The race starts at 9AM.  Should be done by noon.  It is a course through Hitchcock Woods.  If you have never done this before, I can pair you with a more experienced ham. I can also arrange for you to borrow an HT if needed.  Please email me at cjuvrud<<<@>>>gmail.com, or call me at 803.443.8304.   Thanks.

Interesting program from the SECC (South East Contest Club) meeting this past Monday.

Fred Dennin, WW4LL, provides an overview of remote DXing and contest operations utilizing the BeLoud.us network. Lasts about 40 minutes total.

I never thought there could be such a business, but BeLoud stations (more than one) are exactly that. I can't see myself renting a station like this, but maybe you.

Sorry I have to put the link in the subject, but my stupid email program has trouble with cut and pasting to the body.

If you perform any volunteer work involving your radio equipment (especially if for
a 501(c)(whatever) organization, please consult your CPA or tax expert for ideas at
tax return time.

If an online vendor does not charge you SC sales tax on a purchase you are supposed to include the uncollected tax and forms when you file your SC state tax return. Also any sales tax that you pay to other states like the stuff you bought at Costco, gets credited from the uncollected SC sales tax. All in the instructions.

Sales tax charges on online ham equipment purchases

Carl Juvrud KP2L

Members,
I thought that now all Ham equipment dealers charged sales tax on online purchases.  I was wrong.  I bought a radio from  RandL.com.
To my surprise no sales tax is charged if you live in South Carolina.  Here is their policy:
We charge sales tax when shipping to the following states: Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, New York, Tennessee, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Michigan, Georgia and North Carolina.

Not sure how they do this, but you might save some money next time.
