Hey CARC and area friends of Amateur Radio!

The Harbison 50k director has reached out would love to have us again for 2022, this will be our 10^th year supporting this event!!

We’ll need around 15 people to work the event properly.

This year will be a little different in that we will not have access to some of the positions via vehicle.  Positions 8 -11 will be hike in only!!

So please let me know if you’re fit and willing to hike in to either of those positions because they’re both remote and see lots of slipping from the runners.

I’ve attached last year’s map and assignments for reference.

Here are the details you’ll need at this point:

When - Saturday, January 8th

Where - Harbison State Forest

Pre-event meeting – 6:30am at the Ranger Station in the middle of the park

Race Start  - 7:30am from the field in front of the gazebo.

Primary frequency will be 146.400 simplex – make sure you have a good antenna

Secondary frequency will be 147.330 2m

Remember, this is an ANYTHING GOES, BE READY event.

We’ve had freezing weather, flood, rain, snow, and spring temps in the 9 previous years we’ve supported this event.  Who knows what 2022 will bring.

You must be able to get you and your equipment to your assigned position. 

Some positions will be able to close early.  Because this is a loop run, once the runners have completed the 2^nd loop past your position, you’ll be able to request dismissal from Net Control.  For many of you this will still be well after lunch.  For most of us, it will mean 2pm – 4pm.

The event provides a sweep runner.  He will sweep behind the last runner THE ENTIRE RACE.  We will be tracking him the entire time.

Start preparing your gear, drinks, snacks, tarps, boots, flashlight, etc.  You’re going to need them.

This is one of the best and hardest events to work each year!!

PS…  Make sure I have your call sign, tshirt size, and cell number.  If you have a spouse or significant other coming, I need theirs as well!!

PPS…  A gently reminder that we never expect a reward for working an event.  We collect tshirts sizes in case organizers provide any to us, but we never ask for them.  If we’re given anything, it will be distributed.
