I have approval to video Suzy's presentation. If you know someone that is coming, they can bring camera and tripod.  Or we work out a equipment transfer.  I am close to exit 1 on I-20.

Any chance of shooting video of the Edgefield briefing? I will be out of town on March 9, on my way to Cleveland after visiting the Charlotte Hamfest.

I could loan my video camera and a tripod if someone wants to shoot the briefing. Upon returning I would collect the camera, edit the video and upload the edited version to an applicable YouTube and/or Facebook site.

The after-action report would be of great interest to other ARES groups and possibly ARRL HQ so viewership could be fairly substantial if it's a good quality brief.

Due to a recent surgery I am not supposed to drive for a few weeks so I'd like to hitch a ride with a fellow ham and pay for the gas RT.

Might be interested in staying over Friday night to attend some of the Saturday activities.

New CSRA DSTAR repeaters on the air

KENT HUFFORD

BEECH ISLAND KM4LOD REPEATERS ARE INSTALLED AND ON THE AIR:

The short stack (VHF/UHF) DSTAR Repeaters KM4LOD B and C are OPERATIONAL.

We move the repeaters to the tower at Beech Island this morning, and competed installation by noon. However, the antenna is only at about 55 feet (that’s as high as the bucket truck could go without climbers). The VHF module has a 100 watt amp, so it should reach out.  The repeaters are fully coordinated, connected to the internet, registered with the US Trust and working great. They are running the new ICOM G3 software. Please give the KM4LOD DSTAR repeats a try. You should hear the VHF one at least. That’s to all that helped out today to make this 3 year journey a reality. Michael Gill from SCETV, Dave Kjellquist, Kevin Kingery, Mike Newland, Charlie Miller, Jim Harris, the Bucket truck team from Aiken Public Schools IT office, and my wife.

SCETV is still planning on running the hard line and two antenna bays on the tower  at about 500 feet, at Beach Island sometime in the near future. Another option is to pay for commercial tower climbers. We have the hard line, hardware, and bay antennas.

Call sign for the Beech Island DSTAR repeaters.  KM4LOD.

WE have coordinated VHF freqs for the Beech Island DSTAR repeaters.  145.26 -     KM4LOD C We are keeping this on REF001C for now.

AND UHF freqs have been coordinated also  440.55 +   KM4LOD B We are keeping this on REF030C for now.

With 17 student operators, we were very busy.

It is real interesting to watch former students, or current experienced students act like experienced ELMERS!

Dave, WB5NHL held a Technician class during the off times for the students, the whole week!

We put up our new OCF antenna at 40ft on Tuesday, before operating. A great antenna. Thanks to the Aiken County Schools IT department bucket truck and crew.

And Donuts on Wed., Cup Cakes on Thursday, PIZZA on Friday.  Even had a school dance on Friday, just down the hall from the radio shack!

We also handed out the remaining BAOFENG HTs to the new Technicians.

Thanks to all the Elmers that put in over 29 hours each, supporting the school club. It was well worth it. ALL the students got a good bit of mic. time, and a time of their lives talking to places they may never see. YOU want YOUTH in ham radio, YOU have to grow them one at a time..

QUOTES OF THE WEEK-

Annie, one of our smart licensed 8th graders was logging. She told the student on the mic to “Speak up and talk a little louder because you are talking to 70 year olds”.

Again, later she said, “You have to talk like you are talking to your grandmother”.

A conversation started about typewriters. One of the students said, “Yea, I know what that is, my Grandmother has one.”
