Hi Mike

Here is a QSO file that did not decode thru Acars VDL2 ver 1.054. I did check your suggestions but no luck so far.
I read this file as a read qso and it stoped with a runtime error 52.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Hitachi worldspace patch antenna #aero

Roland Fechter

Hello,
I wonder if the Hitachi patch antenna can be used for receiving the L-band of Aero.
Is the removal of its 1472 MHz saw filter really necessary for this purpose ?
Is it necessary to add an LNA ?
Which voltage is needed to power the antenna - and-or ? the LNA ?
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Roland

For Sale: Yeasu FT-897D New in The Box

Tony

All:

I purchased a new unopened box Yaesu FT-897D from an estate sale. It came with the FP-30 A/C power supply and a Yaesu 300 Hz CW filter that were also unopened in the box. I tested the radio and it looks and functions like a new transceiver.

It's an all-mode HF, 50/144/430 MHz transceiver that comes with 60 meters and the TXCO from the factory. It can be used with internal batteries or the internal FP-30 A/C power supply that it came with.

I can provide pictures for those interested. My email address is: dxdx@...

AFAIK you should point it to the directory where MultiPSK creates the QSO files.

Hi Mike

I’m probably missing something but can’t get DL to work. I’m not sure if I’m pointing it at the right directory. I have tried pointing it to the directory containing Multipsk.exe I’m running Windows 10 using sdr dongle and tuning in with SDR# and using stereo sounds.

I have updated AERO-Display so that it now correctly displays data from MultiPSK AERO when used with 10500baud signals. These signals from the Ground Stations to aircraft had a slightly different format to those at 600 and 1200 baud.

2. There is also a new version of AcarsDeco-Display included as the latest version of AcarsDeco2 has also changed its log file layout.

Download link is http://www.agenetools.com/downloads/DL-Updates.zip  - note that you also need the full version of the program installed, these are just updated .exe files.

Thank you for the info Sergio

The power of the GS in its vast majority is 20 W. 19 nm is too much distance to receive GSIF, unless you rise to 1600 feet.

Good point Patrick.  I wasn't aware of that option.

thanks.

Re: Display-Launcher - for MultiPSK

Thanks Mike did all that and the AV_3 Options does indeed show VDL2. Still no data is being read from the QSO file for ACARS/VDL2. I have no issues running the GMDSS module for example.

Hi Phil,

From looking at your screen shot, it appears that although you have selected VDL2 for Log Folder 1, you have not clicked on 'Confirm' to select it as the Display screen shows freq 136.9750 with mode set as ACARS.

You can check the file AV3_Options.txt and ensure that Line 16 shows VDL2 rather than ACARS and it should work OK.

Richard,

RR for the interesting screenshot (nice signal).

Possibly, you can avoid to show your name and address, clicking on the menu “Configuration” item, option “Name and address not displayed…”.

Thanks for the information Richard,

No just like the others. It seems better. I never have been able to decode 10500 bauds transmissions with a Patch antenna (the S/N ratio was too much low). But with a dish (but 1 m diameter) with an helical antenna at the center.

Patrick,

It is another RTL2832U - R820T2 dongle similar to the v3 RTL-SDR.com device.  Nooelec claims that the heat dissipation is better due to heatsinks and pads and the TCXO is 0.5 ppm.  I wanted to try it for the L-band and it also has a feature that I find very convenient -- bias-T is always on.

So it is an RTL-SDR and performs with Multipsk just like the others.

I meant to add in my earlier posting that the 10500bps AERO signals show a lower SNR than the 1200 or 600 signals which can make decoding difficult if antenna alignment is off or there is not an clear path to the satellite.

This is the same setup I use for monitoring EGC (SafetyNet).

Re: Display-Launcher - for MultiPSK

Hi Mike and Paul

DCL (Departure Clearance Link) by VDL has replaced the
ACARS PDC (Pre Departure Clearance).
Im located about 1nm from KILG and 19nm from KPHL.
I regularly receive four SQ transmissions from PHL
but all older ACARS. I receive 136.975 FFFFFF msgs
from ILG nothing from PHL not sure of power output
of VDL transmitter yet. I’m trying to use Multipsk with
AcarsVdl2 Display to receive this data.

My WIN7 error says Acarsdecoder has stopped but
Im wondering now if my update time of 10secs is to fast to keep up. I will change and let you know.

My WIN10 opens with correct QSO source location
but never displays anything. Changed date both ways
not successful. However it reads QSO files but does not
show ARINC msgs.

Thanks for taking the time to look at this. It is appreciated

Bob

Nice report Richard.

>Nooelec NESDR smartee

Is this one “RTL-SDR” compatible (through the DLL)?  Or does it present a sound card input to Multipsk as the Funcube?

My setup includes the Nooelec NESDR smartee, the Outernet airgap patch (not the active model) and the Outernet LNA.  I am receiving from Inmarsat at 54W which is not the closest to my western US location, i.e. elevation is only ~21 degrees.  You'll note that the three 10500bps AERO signals are all in the 12 dB SNR range providing very good decoding with Multipsk or JAERO.  I used SDR# to illustrate the signal strength; if decoding with Multipsk would use the direct I/Q input mode for these 10500bps signals.
