Paste this address in your Internet Explorer or equivalent. Download the file.
Extract the ZIP file and replace the “official” Multipsk.exe with this test version. Before, make a copy of the “official” Multipsk.exe, in case of. It is also proposed new help manuals (chm files) and several data files (for the P25 decoding).

Ham P25 Phase 1 decoding (but not the voice)

"P25" is the acronym for "APCO Project 25", for two different radio systems: "Phase 1" (used also by Hams) and the most recent "Phase 2" (not used by Hams). Only the "Phase 1" P25 mode is decoded by Multipsk.

It is used in VHF and in UHF. It is a mode for professionals but also used by amateurs (according to a precise organization). For Hams, it is spread in a world net by using, among other means, repeaters and Internet.

The amateur P25 communications are the sole object of the Multipsk decoding (professional communications are decoded but ignored). The P25 is considered as a "professional" mode by Multipsk (but the Ham decoding is not limited in time).

It is here only considered the data communication which summarizes to identifiers (callsigns).

Note: the voice communication decoding is excluded because it needs an IMBE Codec.

For Hams and SWL, the P25 signal can be received:

·                     either from the discriminator output of a classical VHF/UHF FM receiver via a direct connection to the PC sound card. However, the receiver must have a large reception bandwidth due to the high modulation speed,

·                     or with a SdR receiver (FunCube Dongle, RTL SDR,...) and directly demodulated by Multipsk. It is the simplest solution.

Here is the WEB address where you can know where all P25 repeaters are located, with their frequencies, for each country: https://www.repeaterbook.com/repeaters/niche/index.php?mode=P-25

This mode is in freeware, so without time limitation.

Thanks for reports on this forum.

Re: Satellite Dish recommendation

Patrick Lindecker

Hello Andrew,

Below is some information about this type of reception .

73

Patrick

Necessary hardware to monitor C band AERO transmissions

A dish of 1.1 m diameter is the minimum to decode transmissions of the 3F5 satellite but it must be of 1.8 m minimum for the 4F1 satellite.

The dish can be a « prime-focus » one or an « offset » one,but in this last case it will be necessary to buy a specific feedhorn (the feedhorn supplied with the LNBF C1W-PLL is aimed to “prime-focus” dishes).

For these very high UHF frequencies, it does not exist receivers as Funcube or RTL SDR dongle able to directly monitor 3600 to 3629 MHz (these receivers are limited to about 1800 MHz). So it is necessary to use a “LNBF” (with “LNBF” for “Low Noise Block down-converter plus Feedhorn”).

An LNBF has 3 functions: it’s a low-noise amplifier, a block downconverter, meaning it takes the signals on the high satellite frequencies and converts them to lower frequencies. Morover, a feedhorn guides the incoming signal to the antenna inside the LNB.

The AERO satellites transmit using a right or a left hand circular polarization. Insert the stab normally supplied with the LNBF inside the LNBF  for circular polarization. The left or right polarization can be selected by changing the LNBF feed  voltage:

  • 11.5 to 14 V for RHCP,
  • 16 to 20 V for LHCP.

In our case, we will use the very good "C1W-PLL" (Titanium Satellite), LNBF which local oscillator frequency is equal to 5150 MHz. Consequently, the inferior heterodyned frequency is equal to: 5150 MHz - the received frequency (3600 to 3629 MHz). So, the 3600 to 3629 MHz band translates towards 1521 to 1550 MHz.

Afterwards, it will be enough to receive these AERO translated signals with a SdR receiver (FunCube Dongle, RTL SDR,...). The signals will be directly demodulated by Multipsk in USB.

Note 1 : if your receiver is neither a RTL/SDR key nor a FUNcube, you will need to install a VAC link (48 KHz, IQ signal 16 bits, in baseband) between the SDR program associated to your receiver and Multipsk (in SdR interface).

Note 2 :it is not necessary to install a LNA ("Low Noise Amplifier") upstream the receiver, because the signal issued from the LNBF is sufficiently powerful.

Note 3: the cable from the LNBF to the receiver used must not introduce too many losses, so either use cable with weak losses or a short cable. Note that the impedance output of the LNBF is 75 ohm and the (nominal) input impedance of receivers is 50 ohms in general. Strictly speaking a matching would be necessary, but without matching the loss is very weak, so....

The principle diagram for the 3F5 satellite reception is the following :

The real diagram applied by the author is the following.

An old version of Multipsk (V.4.3.1 of 2007) for old Windows (95/98/2000) computers with little RAM memory

Patrick Lindecker

Hello to all,

Some time ago, a Ham was looking to make work APRS in its old Windows 98 with 240 Mo of RAM memory ☺

The problem if that the recent Multipsk versions don’t work with so little memory (on Windows 95/98/2000 in general). The Multipsk 4.3.1 version solves this problem.

So, for the ones having such similar problem, they can load this old version of Multipsk (V.4.3.1 of 2007) : Download Here

To install the programs on your hard disk, from the WINDOWS Explorer:

  1) Unzip the MULTIPSK.ZIP file to a temporary directory, for example

    "C:\TEMP".

ATTENTION: don't unzip MULTIPSK.ZIP from the desktop. If you do this, you will have

a lot of files on it (the desktop is a sort of directory)!

  2) From the temporary directory, not from MULTIPSK.ZIP, start the

    INSTAL file:

2.1) if you are installing the program for the first time, choose,

for example, "C:\MULTIPSK". If you are updating a previuos version,

      use the actual directory name,

2.2) double-click on "Installation" if it is an original installation,

      otherwise on "Updating".

Don’t forget to copy/paste your user key in the Multipsk directory.

Re: Consultation from Argentina

Patrick Lindecker

Hello Daniel,

Basically, you can, as Ham, use many amateurs modes (except FT8, FT4…), for digital QSO. You will have to use Commander as interface between Multipsk and your XCVR FT747.

Moreover, with your FT747 and your SdR you can decode a lot of other digital modes.

Look at the Spanish documents and videos here http://f6cte.free.fr/index_anglais.htm

There are many.

You will find all the documentation in Spanish here (thanks to Joaquin EA4ZB):

http://f6cte.free.fr/Translation_files.htm

Here are some hints:

1. About how modes look like

http://f1ult.free.fr/DIGIMODES/MULTIPSK/digimodesF6CTE_en.htm
Look at this address. You have the sound and visual identification of many
modes.

Note: the RS ID permits to identify a mode and the transmission central frequency (see the paper above).
Click on “ID” for RS ID configuration and “RX ID” to set in ON.

2) Calibration of the sound card (only if you decode from a real sound card, rare now)

It is strongly recommended to calibrate the sound-card: click on the
"Adjustments" menu button, then select the "Determination of the RX/TX
sound-card sampling frequencies
" option and push on the "Determination of
the 48 KHz RX sampling frequency (test on 3 minutes)
" button. At the end of
the test, click on "Return",

3) Sound level

About the sound level ("Level" indication in % at the top of the
screen): an AF level superior or equal to 10 % is OK. About 50 % is ideal
(but not critical). In case of very low AF level, select "16 bits" in the
"Determination of the RX/TX sound-card sampling frequencies" option
("Adjustments" menu button).

4) About the help in Multipsk:

- To bring up the text manual (contextual sensitive one), click on the right
button of the mouse, with the cursor over the mode button "BPSK31", for
example, or any other button. In the example, only the BPSK31 help will be displayed.

- Also use the button hints (wait a fraction of second over a button).

5) About frequencies:

Click on the button "QRG" to get all the more or less HF used frequencies.

Click also on “Mode” and “Frequencies used” (for more information about frequencies).

6) For about CW, RTTY configuration:

Click on “Mode” for the different options (bandwidth, speed…).

Could you reinstall Multipsk on a new directory and start it up. If you have the same problem, could you start it up as Administrator.

If you have no problem, could you click on the “By default” option in the Parameters box of your normal Multipsk and test it. Before, you can save parameters with the “Save parameters” option. What happens?

PSE could you ask technical questions to the Multipsk IO group.

The user key just free certain functions after a certain time. It has nothing to do with the problem encountered.

The latitude and the longitude must be entered in a precise format ("d-m.h" for "degrees-minutes.hundredth of minute"):

·         Example for the latitude " 08° 09.70' " North", enter "08-09.70N". The latitude must be 9 characters long.

·         Example for the longitude "002°021.08' " West", enter "002-21.08W"'. The longitude must be 10 characters long.

The "Latitude/longitude checking" button permits to check your latitude and your longitude.

Hello to all Spanish native speakers,

The 4.42 version of Multipsk has been completely translated to Spanish by Joachin (EA4ZB), from French. The links to the translation file and to the manual (AIDE_PSK.CHM) in Spanish are on my Web site (http://f6cte.free.fr/Translation_files.htm).

Note that for a new CHM file (as here the AIDE_PSK.CHM file):
