It is a type of radar that uses several repetitions between 25 and 50ms (40 and 20sps) with 10kHz of bandwidth.

Test version 1 of the Multipsk version 4.44 - Modification of the GPS serial port format

Patrick Lindecker

Hello to all,

I proposed this test version 1, mainly for about the modification of the GPS serial port format: http://f6cte.free.fr/MULTIPSK_4_44_test_version_1.zip

Paste this address in your Internet Explorer or equivalent. Download the file.
Extract the ZIP file and replace the “official” Multipsk.exe with this test version. Before, make a copy of the “official” Multipsk.exe, in case of.

Several other modifications are proposed:

* addition of the sub-mode Contestia 16-250 (ajout du sous-mode Contestia 16-250),

* HFDL, ACARS, VDL2, AERO, ADSB: knots unit added (unité de noeuds ajoutée),

* ACARS positions decoding improved (décodage des positions ACARS amélioré),

* prior cleaning of the local map (effacement préalable de la carte locale),

Hello,

>i can see the coordinate data from the COM3 port that i have selected in multiPSK

On a serial tool, not on GE? Do you confirm?

>click "display all" in multiPSK with GPS selected,

It is normally exclusive: either you use one way or you use the other way but not both in the same time.

>i think there may be a compatibility issue

Yes I agree, it’s a problem of serial port format, not accepted by your GE. I will propose a Multipsk test version with the NMEA 183 format (one stop bit instead of 2). You will tell me if it works better.

i can see the coordinate data from the COM3 port that i have selected in multiPSK, and i was also trying different things to see if anything worked. i found that if i run both programs in administrator (i am using windows 7) google earth stays on "reading com 4" (com4 is the output of the com port 3 that multipsk is using to send the data), but when i click "display all" in multiPSK with GPS selected, google earth cycles through the com ports again, then lands on com4. i think there may be a compatibility issue with the data being sent to google earth. it also seems to drop the connection to com4 sometimes and scans through them again.

Arthur,

In general, the problem comes from the speaker properties. Can you transmit BPSK31 (or other mode) hearing some modulation on the speaker? If not, it is a common problem of speaker properties.

Yes. I connect the rtl/sdr thru the config settings on multipsk. The sound will not come on, but otherwise the sound works fine. If I connect my scanner to the laptop and multipsk the sound is ok. It only happens when I am connecting the rtl/sdr.

Re: problems linking multiPSK through a virtual serial port to google earth. #Beginner

You could try to know if the positions are sent with some tool able to read serial ports (must be received at 4800 bauds, 8 data bits, 2 stop bits and no parity).

If you can read these GLL positions, perhaps your GE does not accept these positions due to the fact that it hopes data in another serial format (?).

If you think that the format is different from the Multipsk one, tell me, I can modify it in the program.

Note: there is an ambiguity about the exact format required by GE, because it is not specified (and we say here something as “Hell  is in details”). I can possibly try with one stop bit (as NMEA 183) instead two.

Have you selected the virtual serial port on the “Serial port for GPS” menu on the Configuration screen. If so, I don’t know what happens.

This still doesn't work. I see Google Earth scanning com3 and com4 but even if I get a new aprs packet it doesn't show on Google Earth

isn't this a kind of OTHR, checking and following the MUF ?
You can see that the same signal appears a little bit later

From :

Note: to start the real time GPS tracking on Google Earth, it is necessary to:

  • click on "Tools > GPS",
  • click on "Realtime",
  • check "NMEA",
  • set the polling interval to 1 second,
  • check "Automatically follow the path",
  • click on "Start".

You forgot :

  • check "Automatically follow the path",
  • click on "Start".

Once done, you must see GE polling com3 and com4 and loading the positions from Multipsk.  It works (I just check it).

I have com0com installed, the two virtual serial ports from that are com3 and com4, I selected com3 in the multiple setup screen, and hit tx/rx screen. Then I opened Google Earth, went to tools, gps, real-time, set the polling interval to 1, turned on the gps button in multipsk, and hit start on Google Earth's real-time gps screen. No waypoints are coming in to Google Earth, it doesn't show the ones before I pressed the gps button or the ones that come in after it is on. I am pretty sure I have this all set up, and I have tried multiple virtual serial ports programs, with still no luck on any of them.

Re: problems linking multiPSK through a virtual serial port to google earth. #Beginner

Hello,

Have you followed this ? (from the manual):

* if the "GPS" button is pushed, all the received positions are transmitted, via a $GPGLL NMEA GPS frame, to any cartography application able to manage GPS frames in real time (as Google Earth). The user must first select a serial port (physical or virtual) in the "Serial port for GPS" menu, on the Configuration screen.
For an application on the same PC, it will be necessary to install a virtual serial link with 2 serial ports (with the "Com0com" program for example). A serial port will be configured on Multipsk and the other will be scaned by the cartography application.

Note: to start the real time GPS tracking on Google Earth, it is necessary to:

  • click on "Tools > GPS",
  • click on "Realtime",
  • check "NMEA",
  • set the polling interval to 1 second,
  • check "Automatically follow the path",
  • click on "Start".

See https://support.google.com/earth/answer/148095?hl=en for more information.

i got APRS decoding set up in multipsk with a virtual audio cable from sdr#, and when i select google earth in the APRS menu it opens google earth (its called google earth pro now) and shows waypoints of the stations and paths of the mobile stations, and this works great, but i saw the GPS option in multiPSK and it says it emulates a GPS and that i can send information live through a virtual serial port to google earth to update live. i think i understand how it works, but i might be missing something. i installed a virtual com port and both multiPSK and google earth recognize the 2 linked virtual ports, but when new APRS packets are received it doesnt show on google earth, where i have a live GPS feed enabled and running. google earth is scanning through com ports and USB ports but it never stops on one and never gets any waypoint data from multiPSK. any help appreciated.

Hello Andy,

Very curious the sound of this transmission. It sounds as a baby babbling

I have no idea. The bandwidth is narrow so it must be a mode for long distance.
