Hello Arthur,

Do you mean the sound produced by Multipsk when you push the “+Speaker” button?

Yes, I tried selecting both but neither of them worked.

Have you selected the virtual serial port on the “Serial port for GPS” menu on the Configuration screen. If so, I don’t know what happens.

This still doesn't work. I see Google Earth scanning com3 and com4 but even if I get a new aprs packet it doesn't show on Google Earth

Andy,

isn't this a kind of OTHR, checking and following the MUF ?
You can see that the same signal appears a little bit later
on ca. 14.720 mc...

From :

Note: to start the real time GPS tracking on Google Earth, it is necessary to:

  • click on "Tools > GPS",
  • click on "Realtime",
  • check "NMEA",
  • set the polling interval to 1 second,
  • check "Automatically follow the path",
  • click on "Start".

You forgot :

  • check "Automatically follow the path",
  • click on "Start".

Once done, you must see GE polling com3 and com4 and loading the positions from Multipsk.  It works (I just check it).

I have com0com installed, the two virtual serial ports from that are com3 and com4, I selected com3 in the multiple setup screen, and hit tx/rx screen. Then I opened Google Earth, went to tools, gps, real-time, set the polling interval to 1, turned on the gps button in multipsk, and hit start on Google Earth's real-time gps screen. No waypoints are coming in to Google Earth, it doesn't show the ones before I pressed the gps button or the ones that come in after it is on. I am pretty sure I have this all set up, and I have tried multiple virtual serial ports programs, with still no luck on any of them.

Re: problems linking multiPSK through a virtual serial port to google earth. #Beginner

Hello,

Have you followed this ? (from the manual):

* if the "GPS" button is pushed, all the received positions are transmitted, via a $GPGLL NMEA GPS frame, to any cartography application able to manage GPS frames in real time (as Google Earth). The user must first select a serial port (physical or virtual) in the "Serial port for GPS" menu, on the Configuration screen.
For an application on the same PC, it will be necessary to install a virtual serial link with 2 serial ports (with the "Com0com" program for example). A serial port will be configured on Multipsk and the other will be scaned by the cartography application.

Note: to start the real time GPS tracking on Google Earth, it is necessary to:

  • click on "Tools > GPS",
  • click on "Realtime",
  • check "NMEA",
  • set the polling interval to 1 second,
  • check "Automatically follow the path",
  • click on "Start".

See https://support.google.com/earth/answer/148095?hl=en for more information.

i got APRS decoding set up in multipsk with a virtual audio cable from sdr#, and when i select google earth in the APRS menu it opens google earth (its called google earth pro now) and shows waypoints of the stations and paths of the mobile stations, and this works great, but i saw the GPS option in multiPSK and it says it emulates a GPS and that i can send information live through a virtual serial port to google earth to update live. i think i understand how it works, but i might be missing something. i installed a virtual com port and both multiPSK and google earth recognize the 2 linked virtual ports, but when new APRS packets are received it doesnt show on google earth, where i have a live GPS feed enabled and running. google earth is scanning through com ports and USB ports but it never stops on one and never gets any waypoint data from multiPSK. any help appreciated.

Hello Andy,

Very curious the sound of this transmission. It sounds as a baby babbling

I have no idea. The bandwidth is narrow so it must be a mode for long distance.

Hello Andy,

And here is part of the first email that I receive (from 24/09/2005) which speaks of the new Contestia mode  (I put the word “Contestia” in bold).

******************************************************************************

hey, remember those amtor and pactor days ....we thought that was the stuff at the time and guess we have not seen anything yet hi hi .....I am running mixw version 2.16b5......and Nick has given us beta testers another mode called contestia to work over ...it is twice as fast as olivia ......glad to be your first olivia contact ......we can speed this up a bit if you want to .....just click on the 2.44chars/s in the bar below and then elect 16 tones ......

very interesting ... I see that we are old Pactor buddies, hi hi ... don't use that mode anymore but it was sure a lot of fun.  Yep I used to be really active on both Amtor and Pactor ... had a PTC-II and that was a good piece of hardware.  Here is the setup now

Software is...... MixW 2.16b5 by UT2UZ running with RigExpert and Compaq 2.7GHz Computer Transceiver...  Yaesu FT-1000MP Mark V

Antenna is...... Homebrew Fan Dipole Array  for 20, 17, 12, 10M

and 40/15 Meter sloping inverted vee up about 35 feet

Running 100 watts at the moment, which is what I usually run except on MT63 and HELL, where I run 200 watts.  Heard about contestia.  Any way for us ordinary types to get it or do we have to wait?  Come back at 16 tones and I will do the same.

OK I understand. They follow the ADIF designation. But in Multipsk, I will continue with the original name. There is no reason to change.

Hi Patrick,

Because it's changed by the MixW4 Team then the name Contestia with the "a" was wrong, so far I know.

See also the MixW4 program, they have not a Contestia mode in it but a Contesti mode.

Also the ADIF specification is right.

Stuart

Hi all,

The latest version of VDL2LogStats (v5.0) is now available.
The version number has been incremented from v2 to v5 to bring the version number of the executable, and the version number of the Reference Manual in sync.
It can read a VDL2 log file generated by MultiPSK (English, French and Spanish) and extracts and reports various statistics.

See Release Note v5.0 for details. Significant changes in this version ...
Calculates average ppm data for dumpvdl2 and vdlm2dec
dumpVDL2 - processes new format of GSIF Frequency Support message
Can now use the acars-vdl2 ground station database 'WithGSIF'
New optional stats outputs
Ground Station By Airport Code Report
Unknown Aircraft Report
Unknown Destination Airports Report
Now includes a basic Search facility.
Now includes a basic Sort facility.

The zip file is available in the Files Section of acars-vdl2@groups.io.
If you are interested in VDL2 and not already a member, then I suggest you join the acars-vdl2@groups.io.

Regards and Stay Safe.
