Re: Test version not using VDL2 station list #aero

David Stark

I apologize for omitting the info you requested before.

The install directory is c:\MULTIPSK.
The VDL2_Ground_Stations.txt file is located there.
My license info shows on the top line of the RX screen.
The QRGs button does provide a list of VDL2 frequencies.

I have installed MultiPSK v4.38.2 on three different Windows 10x64 computers (two desktops and a laptop) and none of them are reading the GS data.

Re: Test version not using VDL2 station list #aero

Hello Dave,

Could you answer to the previous questions:

It seems that Multipsk does not read the VDL2 GS list. Are you sure that Multipsk starts from its directory (check the link properties)? If so,  you must see your license name on Multipsk. Do you see it?

If you click on “QRGs” do you see a list of frequencies?

If not, it is a problem of right. Have you installed the Multipsk directory on the C:\ root?

>Is there a detailed specification for the VDL2 ground stations file, including spacing and punctuation?

No. The text format is just the one that you can see where you open it.

I just did a complete reinstall of v4.38.2 and still have the problem.

Is there a detailed specification for the VDL2 ground stations file, including spacing and punctuation?

Hallo, Steinar !
Could you tell me-us at which frequencies you currently receive on the downward link position reports ?
Please the "plain" frequencies, not the "downscaled" ones you previously showed.
You showed 7,xxxx but this is downscaled - what I would need is the plain frequencies, i.e. e.g. 1526.078, 1526.108.
This refers to alphasat 25E.
I found the latter mentioned somewhere
as being used - do YOU currently use them as well ?
What are Your current ones, please ?
Thanks in advance,.
Good spotting,

Hi all,

I have just released VDL2LogStats v1.2. It can read a VDL2 log file generated by MultiPSK (English, French and Spanish), dumpvdl2 and vdlm2dec, and extracts and displays various statistics e.g.

Number of Messages

Number of Uplink Messages

Number of Downlink Messages

Number of Acars messages,

Number of messages per hour

Number of messages per hour per frequency

List of received ground stations (in various orders)

List of aircraft logged

List of Destination Airports

Broadcast (GSIF) Messages received etc

See acars-vdl2@groups.io message #488. The zip file is available in the Files Section of acars-vdl2@groups.io.

If you are interested in VDL2 and not already a member, then I suggest you join the acars-vdl2@groups.io.

Re: VDL2LogStats

Dick

Hi all,

Due to a bug in the program that extracts and converts the GS data from the logfiles all airport coordinates in "VDL2 Ground Stations With Details" are incorrect. All coordinates in AirportLat were N and all in AirportLon were E. :-(
This is now corrected.

However the "VDL2 Ground Stations With Details" which is part of the "VDL2LogStats_v1.2.zip" file is wrong and needs to be replaced.

For those who downloaded and installed Stuart's "VDL2LogStats_v1.2.zip" please
- go to Databases Section of acars-vdl2@groups.io,
- select "VDL2 Ground Stations With Details"
- select 'Export Table' (at the bottom of the list)
- select 'CSV format'
and save the content of this database to your VDL2LogStats directory and replace the "VDL2 Ground Stations With Details.csv" file.

Or use the attached version.

My apologies if this has caused any inconveniences.

Cheers,
Dick

Re: SSTV PIcture Lost??

Floyd Bixler

Tks for the help on this issue.  After multiple searches and looking for anything, I’ve pretty much come to the conclusion that this picture is no longer available.  I believe it was lost immediately after the ISS transmission ended (that’s when the picture disappeared).  The sstv_rx directory was also not created.

This probably all boils down to a permissions issue during installation.

I would have, however, expected some kind of error message from MultiPSK that the picture could not be stored and the option to put it somewhere else.  Maybe a change request??

Anyway, we have another chance to do this again in the next couple days (starting today) and we’ll see what happens this time.

73 and good luck with the pictures. I still got my award after the last one even though I could only submit half.

You could do search at the root off the hard drive for *.jpg or *.bmp or whatever for the picture is stored in. It return a lot results. But it is better than nothing.

Hi Floyd,

I tried to duplicate your problem with the lost SSTV image. I started MULTIPSK and selected decoded PSK31 and JT65 and then I tried SSTV.  Unfortunately
i could not  find a signal to generate an image. In the  QSO folder,  in the latest file I found the logs for PKS31 and JT65 and an entry for SSTV (but no image because I did not capture one.).  Check to see if the image is in this directory..

Re: SSTV PIcture Lost??

Hello Floyd,

> There is no SSTV_rx folder to be found.

I just tried the SSTV function “Auto Save”. It works well. This folder is created the first time a picture is automatically (“Auto Save” On) or manually stored (with the “diskette”).

Try to receive a SSTV picture normally (“Synchro” On) and store it with the “diskette”. You must see that a SSTV_rx sub-folder is created.

If not, it is a problem of rights (something prevents the file creation). If the Multipsk program is under the C:\Programs file you must create a C:\MULTIPSK folder and copy-paste all the Multipsk files and sub-folders to this folder.

Try also to start Multipsk as Administrator.

>Does this picture still exist anywhere?

If the SSTV_RX sub-folder does not exist in the Multipsk folder, no.

I have often heard RSID for PSK31 , seems odd but perhaps useful these days . I am surprised how many hams are still very in uncertain about how to become active on digital modes . It is interesting to watch the comments and questions from new FT8 users . Same questions we all asked in 1999 when PSK31 was new and we had no idea how to link radio and computer .

Re: #RSID Modes detected 20M #RSID

Fred Albertson

Hi Patrick,

The RSID capability is a great one, and the algorithm is very sensitive.
I listen to several HF radio programs that use RSID for changing modes.
That is the only way it is practical, because, with time zones and prop,
we have to have an automatic method for mode changes, as the programs
are at all hours of the day and night.

Take a listen to Short Wave Radiogram (SWR), produced by
Kim Andrew Elliott (http://swradiogram.net), or Broad Spectrum Radio,
(http://broadspectrumradio.com/about-bsr/shortwave-radio-schedule/bsr-international-shortwave-broadcasts/).

Both have weekly schedules of digital mode transmissions using RSID
with pictures and text in varying modes.

A particularly interesting one is the SWR transmission on 13690kHz which
uses WINB (Red Lion, PA USA) to send DRM audio.  Currently that transmission
is at 1500-1530 UTC on Friday.  I am in the skip zone, so I copy via
an European KiwiSDR.

For this DRM version, Kim has built a program using many different digital
modes which decode pretty well using MultiPSK.  Some of these are very
fast text modes, and pictures are added in.

Thanks and keep up the good work.

Great day,

Fred
