Pour les francophones: la version en français de ce message se trouve sur mon site (http://f6cte.free.fr). Il suffit de cliquer sur le lien "Principales modifications (courriel avertissant de la sortie de la nouvelle version)".

Hello to all Ham and SWL,

The new release of MultiPSK (4.46.1) is on my Web site (http://f6cte.free.fr/index_anglais.htm).
The mirror site is Earl's, W8BR: https://www.paazig.net/f6cte/MULTIPSK_setup.exe

The MD5 signature of the downloaded MULTIPSK_setup.exe file to, possibly, check (with WinMD5 for example), that the downloading works without error, is equal to:

b62aa301c72df91204ebd74a1a69e136

Multipsk associated to Clock are freeware programs but with functions submitted to a licence (by user key).

The main improvement of MULTIPSK 4.46.1 is the following:

Several bugs fixed permit to this new version to decode 93 sound files representing more or less all the amateur and professional modes which can be decoded by Multipsk.

The goal of this collection of 93 sound files is, for a user, to train on digital modes proposed by Multipsk. For this, for a given mode, it will be found a sound file, which will permit:

·    To listen to the type of sound generated by the mode in transmission (except for the modes decoded in SDR).

·    To see how its spectrum appears on the "waterfall",

·    To see how looks like the decoding.

·    To test the different controls proposed.

The information about this collection of files is proposed below:

http://f6cte.free.fr/About_the_collection_of_Multipsk_sound_files.pdf

The sound files are inside ZIP files downloadable here:

Re: Using Multipsk to send grid info when in Phone mode ?

Patrick Lindecker

Hello Christian,

The problem with CW messages is that the decoding is not very reliable (contrary to Call IDs), i.e. you can decode a call sign and a Locator without being sure that there are no decoding errors.

Perhaps one solution would be to send in CW something as “CQ CQ CQ PHONE DE F6CTE JN18FT E5BSD IM07ES +K”

With “CQ CQ CQ PHONE DE”, CALL+LOCATOR, CALL+LOCATOR with each character transmitted with the inferior character (B for C for example, except Z for A and 9 for 0) and “+K” being compulsory. Now if the second part (“E5BSD IM07ES” in the example) is coherent with the received first part (“F6CTE JN18FT” in the example), the probability of error is very low and the call sign + Locator are quite confident.

A better solution would be to send this sentence in CCW-24 (OOK) so to have a much more reliable and sensitive decoding by PCs, but still being compatible with CW decoders and with many Hams “ears” (24 wpm being fast but not too fast).

Now compared to the CALL ID, the problem is that you must tune the transmission, whereas with CALL ID you have not (all the waterfall or the SdR waterfall (on 44 KHz) can be monitored).

Yes , that is what I thought Patrick . It would be hard to convince the Phone hams to transmit a tone each “over”. It would also have to be a tone picked up by PSKreporter also, to have world wide utilization .

No there is no such specific option. Now if a Ham wants to communicate its Locator (and much more information), it could send for example a Call ID before speaking. However, in phone communications, rare are the Hams having Multipsk working…

I have become a fan of the software Gridtracker for the way it displays active communications and plots on a world map. Problem is, the grid locator info is almost entirely based on transmissions from FT8 and FT4 transmissions. I think it would be useful if stations using basic SSB Phone communications could prefix each transmission with a tone that send their grid info so that it can be plotted on a map like Gridtracker.  Perhaps similar to those old annoying courtsy beeps :)  Does Multipsk have the ability to do that , using narrow bandwidth?

Hi Patrick, et al,

SDRPlay has released a new update to SDRPlay today (Ver 1.42 0728) which contains new API software.

I am now able to back-up to API 3.09 using Andy's procedure. This allows me to use MultiPSK
to control the RSPduo again.

Many thanks to Andy and company,

Fred

Hello Andy,

A Call ID received on Multipsk can be automatically transmitted to PSKReporter.  But as you said, it is not imaginable for Phone Hams to signal them with a previous modulated tone.

Re: Multipsk with FT-991

Hi Pat,

First of all, thank you for your reply.

I have been using the FT991 in FT8 with USB connection for several months. The software automatically switches the 991 to DATA-USB.

And wanting to do Hell and RTTY in decametric I had not succeeded in doing it with the USB mode before realizing that it was possible in DATA-USB.

Looking at your 991A setup (like the 991) I looked at steps 108 and 109.
In 108 (SSB PTT SELECT) I change DAKY to RTS and 109 (SSB PORT SELECT) from DATA to USB like you.

And with these two parameters, it works in USB. For the 108 where you are in DAKY, I think it is because you are using Commander from DXLabs which manages the PTT select.

But with MMSSTV it doesn't work. You must be in DATA-USB.
It's not really bothersome but a little curious because SSTV is absolutely not a digital mode but I think DATA does not mean numeric in the Yeasu spirit.

I think that sometimes, you shouldn't try too hard to understand, only Yeasu engineers could give an explanation but they are impossible to reach, they would collapse under questions!

Hi Pierre, F6IDT

I work with the FT-991A and normal with the micoro KEYER II as interface, but for this answer I have connected the FT-991A to the computer with only the USB cable.

The main problem is that one has to take into account the different parameters of:
1. The CAT drivers
2. The Transceiver in this case the FT-991 from Yaesu
3. The settings of the software program, here it is MultiPSK.
4. The Interface

I use the FT-991A which is the same as the FT-991 sometimes slightly different in the FT-991 menu settings.

1. Drivers.
Go to the Yaesu website https://www.yaesu.com/ and select the FDT-991A in the Files section, download and install the FT-991A/ SCU-17 USB Driver (Virtual COM Port Driver)
In Device Manager at Ports (COM & LPT) you will see the following Silicon labs ports
Silicon Labs Dual CP2105 USB to UART Bridge: Enhanced COM Port (COM3)
Silicon Labs Dual CP2105 USB to UART Bridge: Standard COM Port (COM4)
The Enhanced COM Port is used for CAT control.
The Standard COM Port is used for the TX
(the COM ports may be different from those in the example above)

2. Transceiver menu (FT-991A)
I am using USB mode and not DATA USB
Menu setting: see FT-991A-Menu-setup.pdf

3. MultiPSK setup:
Select Configuration no COM ports selected because I use the Commander of DXLab Suite
Select menu
Sound Card (Input) and select here Microphone (USB Audio CODEC)
Auxiliary Sound Card (from an input) and select here Microphone (USB Audio CODEC)

Sound Card (Output) and select here Speakers (USB Audio CODEC)
Auxiliary Sound Card (from an output) and select here Speakers (USB Audio CODEC)

Click now RX/TX screen
Connect with the Commander of DXLab Suite.

This is how it's work here.

Re: Multipsk with FT-991

Hi Thierry,

Thanks for your help.

This is exactly the mode I use for the FT8 which is a real digital mode whereas the Hell, for example, is rather a mode based on a low frequency modulation that can be introduced into a microphone socket to generate the SSB.

So I hadn't thought of putting in DATA-USB mode. And indeed it is the function to be used for Hell, RTTY, facsimile and SSTV on the decametric bands and even VHF/UHF possibly.
I just did the tests and it works correctly so it's good to know and the problem is solved !

Even on bands and modes tone data bursts are common, some hams complain about the "noises".

Les réglages de base avant de passer à l'émission

- Via la touche "MODE", sélectionnez "DATA-USB" et surtout pas "USB". Le mode "USB" sera réservé à la phonie.

Hope it will help Pierre, I don't own any FT-991

Hi Patrick,

The difficulty is that the sound card is internal to the XCVR and we only have the menus to possibly be able to configure the link, but I couldn't find anything.
It is curious that it works in FM but not in SSB.

Unless someone has already found the trick, I'll go to another solution and I'll study the document you sent me.

Thanks again and 73,
