Sounds interesting. Will watch the event but as it’s when we’re eating I shall catch it afterwards.

Thank you Roy

There is a product , already established in the market, called TILE. It consists of a small device - a tile - which is attached to a valuable item on the one hand , and an App for your smartphone which can track the tile. I think the design plan was that each tile could be attached to important items , like car keys , wallet , wife? But I suspect the cost of the tiles at £20-£30 limited it’s appeal.

Somewhat behind the curve Apple have also been developing a similar product ( they actually bought the company) which is rumoured to be called Airtags. This product has been rumoured for a couple of years but it is now expected to be announced this year and possibly at the , just announced, next launch on 20th April.
As I see it Airtags will provide the same functionality as the Tile product but , being Apple, cost a little more but may have additional functionality.

It appears that,  using the App on your phone you can make the tile/Airtags bleep , as long as it is close by since it uses Bluetooth technology to enable you to trace it. If the phone is too far away from the Tile and Bluetooth isn’t possible then the app uses the  ‘Find my ‘ feature to locate it by requesting all smartphone users with that app installed to ‘look for it’ . Obviously a van motoring down the motorway with a Tile attached is unlikely to be detectable but , on the other hand, when it stops in the fuel station or wherever, it may be detectable.

I dont know what happens after that.

I can see that in the case of a vehicle the cost of each tile wouldn’t be an issue whereas tracking something less important it might be. I will be interested to hear of the launch of Airtags and to hear about it’s full functionality. Now where is my wife?

Re: tracking system

I use https://www.scorpionauto.com/stolen-vehicle-tracking/motorhome-caravan-security-systems/

Haven't experienced and operational problems, and they have called me when I forgot to say the vehicle was on a ferry, so system seems to work. Probably not the cheapest and 5 year subscription was circa £480. Don't know installation cost as I also had a Sigma 2 - 1 alarm added at the same time.

Re: tracking system

We've had a Phantom tracker for nearly 20 years and have upgraded the system a couple of times.

Works really well across Europe - phone App very useful.

Contact centre staff very helpful should you ever need them.

If you do decide to go for a Phantom let me know as we can both get an extended subscription referral bonus.

Nigel.

What’s the problem with just connecting to your Smartphone as they suggest?

That’s what I’ve done with mine previously because the radio reception seemed patchy.

I agree with Nigel, Caravan Guard my insurers have this an option.

When looking for breakdown cover be warned, always read the small print. Some breakdown cover insurers, usually the cheap ones, do not for example cover the Scottish Islands, this may not be relevant for your proposed trips, but it will be for some.

Check your insurance - may have an add-on policy.

A good recommend is always welcome Martin, question - did you have to pre-book, and, how far in advance. Reason I ask is that it could be on our way south and Retford is quite handy to pop into en-route.

insurance, jab side effects

Alan Cocks

I have seen rumours that insurance companies, health, travel and life
etc use exclusions for illness that is taken as jab side effects.
There appear to be confirmations. for example a letter includes they
will help with cost if you damage yourself during the self swab, but
not for jab side effects. For covid illness itself (presumably no jab)
that is covered as usual illness including long covid.
