I’m a little bit confused, Carol, as to what the extender thingy is supposed to do. Was it all installed and set up for you by your dealer? Is the dish controlled separately or via a Di-Seq or USALs signal from the Manhattan?

Switching TV on, you should only need to set to HDMI. Manually or using remote. The same if you were using any set-top box or DVD player.

Use Manhattan tuner remote to directly select on satellite tuner.

To watch F1 live, when Channel 4 tune Manhattan to RTL on Astra 1 for the picture while using your laptop or phone to listen to an uncannily super synchronised commentary in English from https://www.bbc.co.uk/5live

Thanks Martin. I was thinking the same thing!!

Thanks Peter S, I hadn’t thought of contacting Autosleeper which I now have, by email.
Of course, they carry out repairs. I also need a habitation check and have a few minor warranty issues.
Maybe three birds with one stone?

Cheers!
Brian

Sounds like it is mainly non-Autosleeper related damage so would need to go to proper bodyshop anyway. The problem might be reaching the dents from the inside if cupboards etc are in the way. Why not ring Autosleeper for advice as this won't be something they have not dealt with before. I understand they are very helpful.  Not sure about Marquis as reports are not always complementary.

You could also ask on the Autosleeper Owners Forum. Worth joining in any case.

I understand your pain as the first time I reversed our new Bourton into our drive I caught the rear edge on the wall when going forward to straighten up - the overhanng swang more than I was expecting.  Turned out that Chipsaway could polish out the scrape to the bodywork.

Good luck.

Hi folks

You may recall I was seeking suggestions for places to visit on a fortnight in France with my first timer female travelling companion. It was an interesting trip totalling 1700 miles from Devon to Brantome in the Dordogne .

About which I might report further.

Our trip was without incident until I returned my friend home and pranged my one year old Autosleeper Fairford on the gatepost of her drive. This has resulted in a few dents halfway down the van, scratching of the decals and possibly some damage to one of the mountings of one of the fridge vents. Bummer!

So, now I'm wondering about my best course of action and would welcome your advice.

I've no idea what the repair cost would be.

My insurance has a £200 excess and, having 9+ years no claims history, undoubtedly any claim will affect my future premium for my van (as well as for my car, insured with a different company?).

Should I just make a claim with my insurance company and let them sort it out?

Should I go to an approved workshop for a quote? Marquis seem to be my nearest.

Should I go back to my dealer who doesn't seem to be in the approved scheme?

Any advice, not including 'don't do it again', would be welcomed.

Many thanks

Cheers

Brian

Re: : Mercedes Sprinter (mk2) 416 handbrake adjustment

Colin Mitchell

Steve, I don't know if there is much difference between the 416 and my 412 but if you can't find the definitive answer that meets your needs, and you think this might help, I  can send you details taken from my Peter Russek Pocket Mechanic (PM) for the 412. I'm currently travelling in Croatia but it will be easy to take a photo of the pertinent section and send it to you to enable you to compare what you have with the diagrams and description included in the PM.

Colin

No experience personally but there are several online forums for Sprinter owners, I'm sure it will have been covered. Failing that if you let me know the VIN I'll look it up in my Mercedes WIS.

I did that last time and called them before leaving and then change details otherwise they’ll keep you waiting.

Re: [MH-list] Last minute change of vehicle question

David Scholes

I turned up once at one of the ports in a different car (before my caravan/motorhome days).
I was worried but they just took it as normal, changed the Reg number on the ticket and ushered me on board.
Can’t see it phasing them at all except for the Chunnel where you are welcomed by name because they use number plate recognition as you come up the drive.

You change your booking online at no cost, but I would think it inadvisable to just 'turn up'.

Re-upholstery

Mick Potter

After several years, we need to have our 'van re-upholstered. About 10 years ago we had some warranty re-upholstery done on an earlier 'van by a firm in Melton Mowbray, who were very good. I have lost the details, and can only remember that the manager was called Mike.

Does anyone know who they are, and have contact details?

Or, alternatively, does anyone have any recommendations, preferably within striking distance of Petersfield, east Hants?

TIA.

Mick

Bilbao Port

Mick Potter

We have a morning sailing from Bilbao to Portsmouth. Apparently we can check in the day before, before 7pm, and spend the night in the docks.

We, but not the 'van, are allowed to leave the docks , but as I recall, they are fairly large, and not near anything worth visiting (bar, restaurant, etc). We have pushbikes, so could go a few miles.

Has anyone done this? Is there anywhere to go from the docks? Or any recommendations for a more congenial parking spot in/near Bilbao?

TIA

Mick
