Lidl again

Marjorie Clarke <mjc@...>

At our local Lidl. I've just bought a pump-spray bottle of Insect Remover
(for paintwork and glass) for 79p. Cautious experimentation leads me to
think this might be quite a good buy.

What they ought to have warned me is that if you decide to try it out on one
small section of a dirty white van, it makes the rest of the van look even
dirtier...

Marty <camping.car@...>

Republic of Ireland is often an exculsion on some rental insurance policies,
or a premium to be paid at least.
You will also find, as i ahve with one or two souces I've trid today, that
many rentals are booked for several weeks, or even over 2 months (sometimes
more!) a head at this time of year.

All I can suggest is keep trying & hope.

If I can find anything I'll post.

Marty.

There was a former poster to this list named Bill Lupton. He is Irish and
I think started another list or at least joined another list. I think he is
very knowledgeable about Irish motorhoming. Does someone on the list have
an e-mail address so that he could help out this person?

Re: Rear View Cameras

Having driven 38 tonne trucks for 27 years without a reversing
camera, nor being involved in a reversing accident I personally
think
them a waste of time - I'd rather spend the money on a holiday in
the
bus. But that's just my thoughts.
If there is a reversing camera system available that could also be
radio controlled to scan 360 degrees as a cctv security camera my
concerns would be that camera itself would be open to
vandalism/attack.
Voxy.
I found a MicroMark CCTV system (camera, monitor that doubles as a
TV/Radio and 10 metres of cable) at a local discount store. Cost -
£39.95. I called MicroMark to see if the camera was
weatherproof. "Totally" And will it run off 12 volt (it came with a
mains plug transformer that put out 12v) "Yep - no problem!" Now
installed in the van and I have found it very useful. At that price
it was a bargain. It also has infra-red (so I can see my wife smoking
behind the van before bed!) and a microphone built into the cam so I
can hear her instructions. Don't think I would have paid £300+ but
for under £40....!

Andy
Along with a partner, My company is developing a wire-less rear view camera,
which need nothing on the trailer. Just secure the camera to a bracket and
move it somewhere else whenever you want. Loads of other uses !
3-6 months, watch out on www.caravanparts.net

Marty <camping.car@...>

You'll need a very sutaintial rack for that size, the heaviest I've seen in
Germany carried upto 250kg & was really only suitable to fit to something
akin to an American RV or Clou etc. The rack alone weighed in at near
100kgs.
Marty.

Better to stick to the trailer I think!

We took our 4 kids away on an extended European tour for 6 months from March
till October some years ago. .... including all the school work for that year.
You can never replace the memories and shared experiences that we had, and
not one of them suffered educationally each getting a degree later in life.
The school was most helpful and all the teachers without exception
congratulated us on "breaking the mould"..... and provided everything we needed to
ensure that the kids education did not suffer.
So go for it.... youll never regret it.
Its a big World out there.

We are hoping to take our Elddis Aotoquest to Russia to visit Moscow and St
Petersburg. Have applied to Russian Embassy for visas, but understand they
need a detailed itinery. The problem here is that no-one seems to know the
location of campsites (if any), so it's difficult to plan in detail. Also
the AA tells us that there is no (or very little)unleaded petrol in Russia
and we run on this. Will we wreck the engine if we use leaded fuel?
Any tips and hints would be welcome.
=============================================================================

Hi Mike,
We wanted to visit St Petersburg but after much planning and taking advice
from different organisations we decided to do the trip by rail from Helsinki
It's also possible to do a round trip Moscow/St Petersburg from Helsinki as
well.
We were unable to get van or recovery insurance for the trip anyway.

We found it was a lot cheaper and easier to organise the trip in Helsinki
(the main tourist office have a section for such trips and are very
efficient).
The trip (visas etc) took about four/five days to organise. In the mean time
we took a trip on the fast craft to Tallin, Estonia.

There is an suitable site in Helsinki where you can leave the van

We got a great deal of misleading information from tour companies in the UK
who do package tours to Russia.

I can give you a rough idea of prices if you are interested.

Don
