Your link reminded me of the Jet Toilet System in our previous Hymer S830. Sold as a “brilliant macerator toilet that holds 70 litres of waste” it proved to be a bit of a nightmare. It used so much water that it had to be emptied almost every day. Rarely were we somewhere that I could drive over a toilet emptying point so it involved decanting into a Waterhog and trundling that to the emptying point. Not pleasant at the best of times and extremely unpleasant in rain & snow. It also blocked a few times. I’ll not go into further details. We tried to get it replaced with a standard cassette, but no British dealer was interested as it involved widening the cassette door opening considerably to be able to slide the cassette in at a 45 degree angle. Campirama in Belgium did a few conversions and made a very good job of the one I saw and we provisionally booked it in of a £4K toilet transplant. It then dawned on us that our 70th birthdays were approaching so we put the £4K towards downsizing instead. The Merc Hymer S830 was one of the best vans we have owned and we kept it longer than any other (8 years) - I suspect that without the “improved“ toilet we would still have it now! They did change the toilet design and reverted to a standard cassette. Martin

Wouldn't be my choice. 3 bottles of fluid to be stored and only last a month - sounds a bit like the printer ink scam with a cheap printer but expensive ink - and no choice of fluid supplier. Only 750 places to discharge. Can't tip down an ordinary toilet as you have to use the the pump out. Peter S

Magnificent Martin! Must visit your 'twin'....
But you didn't get a new loo! Have you seen the latest Thetford.... no cassette, uses your waste water for flushes and works using a phone app. I kid you not: https://www.outandaboutlive.co.uk/motorhomes/news/thetford-revolutionises-motorhome-sanitation-with-smart-toilet-system Trouble is, the smarter things get the smarter they can be at going wrong. Too complicated for me. Sometimes I think the old hand pump would have been better in my camper than the electric pump in very-hard to access water tank - have had three needing to be replaced in six years have had the van. I had been with LV for a number of years but my premium shot up this year by 20%. On phoning they instantly gave me a small reduction but I ended up with Direct Line who were much cheaper for the same cover.

I shop around every year, LV had been ok for a couple of years and we still use them for the camper. For this year Age Co came out cheapest for the car. Andy Clarke

Don, had same issue with LV earlier this year so followed the system laid out here: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/car-insurance/#buying
and the insurance came in at about £150 cheaper with a decent provider (M&S). Might be worth a shot? It took me about an hour to visit all the sites recommended and squared it with myself by saying that it wasn't a bad rate of pay!

I got a quote from Go Compare with the same company (LV) which was only £9 cheaper. I also tried Direct Line £408 and NFU who refused to quote. Any suggestions will be most welcome. Don

Same situation with us. Comfort plus breakdown and car still ok until March with ADAC but insurance not due until April. So May keep fingers crossed W that month and do it combined next year.

Re: End of ADAC Plus? - Replacement??
Neill King \(MH-List\)
Of note for drivers of pre-2007 vehicles; Green flag will not (no longer?) cover Europe for vehicles 16 years old on extra premium (or 11 years on standard premium).
Given the current situation any forward strategic planning about breakdown insurance ought maybe to cover 12 or more years so pretty much rules out the pre-2006/7 chassis. Although not likely to affect many of the regular posters here - we do still get regular enquires here for bits for 80s-90s-00s vehicles so plainly of concern for some.
There’s also a potential catch under the section for motorhome limits where it says “Minibuses and transit size vans are specifically excluded from cover”. That could mean that if your Ducato-Transit-Sprinter-Movano etc PVC isn’t listed as a ‘motorcaravan’ on the ‘V5’ you could run into difficulties. This V5 listing topic has been discussed here in the past.
Increasingly looks like we’ll go with a Comfort add-on and separate cover for the car which is likely to be UK only - but since it is mostly driven by Dilys and also with me being rather indisposed at times, it will need to cover almost all eventualities.
And ADAC did all this easily, even when sending out the AA or RAC on their behalf.
What fun it is going to be now!

It might be possible to recover damaged-by-flattening-batteries using a smart charger that has a 'recovery' function / mode - often some kind of pulse action.

I'm not sure how your compact jump start system works, but I understand that they require a flat battery to be in a reasonable condition. The jump device probably gives the starter battery a fast boost so that it can provide some current to help in starting. Alan.

Re: End of ADAC Plus? - Replacement??
Steve Pyke
Hi, We have Comfort insurance including breakdown cover which is now run by DAS so who would come out if needed is anybody's guess. We haven't needed it so far. For the car, once the maker's (Hyundai) five year cover ran out we used Start Rescue for about £40 a year, and cheaper through a cashback site, for UK only. They do short term EU cover. Only used them once for a flat battery - door not shut properly when car left for two days at a station. A local garage came out in half an hour so reasonable service we thought. It's an insurance based scheme but we didn't have to pay and claim back like some. (I've since bought one of those compact jump starter lithium battery packs. Not needed it yet but may do as neither vehicle has moved for three months!) I believe CMC's Mayday service which used to be Green Flag only covered UK as they expect you to buy their Red Pennant package when going abroad. Who owns what these days? We aren't planning to go abroad this year. Take care Steve

Both having a poor record for slow attendance when requested. Alan.

End of ADAC Plus? - Replacement??
Neill King \(MH-List\)
Hi all you ADAC-ers, is there any consensus yet on the best/better replacements for ADAC Plus - for either just UK or for Europe?
Before ADAC we had a 5-person personal with RAC Arrival via CCC but that looks very expensive now especially for just 2 or 3 people. We never qualified for the ex civil service deal elsewhere.
I can say I’d like something more motorhome / touring specific that the ‘freebies’ include with bank accounts say. I’m also reluctant to tie breakdown cover to insurance, we’ve often found we wanted to go in different directions on those!
Any up to date news welcome!
