Re: A man & a van

I might be the only full-timer on this list but know that I am part of
a sizeable community of people who travel and live in vehicles for months or years at a time - sometimes permanently. Sometimes called "overlanders" or "vanlifers". You might think equipped to live off-grid, we would be fine during a lockdown. In reality, our lifestyle choice depends on the ability to move around, camp, and access services like water, power, gas and toilets from time to time. Then regional and national borders close, campsites shut and wild camping banned, "outsiders" discouraged. Told to #stayathome and, well, it's complicated. Where's that? I was in Spain when lockdown declared. Luckily I was at a remote vinery where pitches and services were free. (Wine sales the obvious return). For days and sleepless nights I self-debated. Eventually after urging of FO, family and friends I made a fairly unimpeded dash for "home" country. Remembering at Calais I had a brother-in-law in south-east with good size garden, there I headed. Been there using his utilities (inc outside loo) now for two months. But still as a 'vanlifer' in my own capsule. Meanwhile, Brit couple whose only home was their motorhome and with whom had made good friends are still at the vinery, west of Barcelona. Finding it strange that now other Spanish motorhomes are turning up. However, I'm nowhere as adventurous and have not suffered like the couple who were in Argentina, the lead main example among other vanlifers in this BBC long read: BBC News - 'I left my campervan in Argentina' https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/stories-52790108 Tim

I take it that some have not heard Ed Reardon before. The programme is a regular on the BBC and IMHO is one of the funnier programmes they put out. It is not a serious programme about motorhomes so don't take it at face value.

See Wikipedia:- "Ed Reardon's Week is a sitcom on BBC Radio 4 recorded semi-naturalistically in the style of a radio drama. It concerns the story of a curmudgeonly 50-something writer described in the show's publicity material as an "author, pipesmoker, consummate fare-dodger and master of the abusive email". Peter S

DÜSSELDORF

A translation Menu -- Our information to visit the Dusseld-rf MotorHome Show Published May 28, 2020 We had already announced a few weeks ago: the Dusseld-rf show will take place from 4 to 13 September, with health measures adapted to the current context. We'll tell you how. Stefan Koschke, director of the Dusseldorf Motor Show, commented on the decision to organise the world's largest motorhome show: "We are convinced that the Dussled-rf MotorHome Show can generate decisive momentum for the sector and that it is essential to offer companies a stage to revive the economy. It is also important for us to stress once again that the safety and health of visitors, exhibitors and employees is always our first priority. We will put the required hygiene and safety measures in place in a comprehensive and responsible manner." The majority of visitors to the fair come from Germany and the Benelux countries. The end of the travel alert announced by the German government for 31 countries is also positive news for the show. A few companies, for their part, have made the decision not to participate in the show in view of the health context. Hygiene procedures put in placeHygiene and protection procedures will be put in place between the attractions and inside the exhibition halls. The layout of the plans on all areas of the exhibition halls will be adapted, hydroalcoholic gel dispensers will be present at each entrance hall for staff and visitors. Only a limited number of people will be ableto enter the vehicles, provided they are not subject to contact restrictions. Wearing a mask will be mandatory to visit motorhomes. Respect for social distance in the halls will be ensured by video surveillance and a deployment of staff. The maximum number of visitors per day will be limited to 20,000 people. To guarantee this limit, tickets will only be sold online to ensure that visitors are registered by name. Hi,
There was a fix for low light levels, to be done as a recall. Ours was done before we picked up our 2 year old van.

Hi,
True, however, Ducato owners can't always see the nice dark red speedo in sunlight. By the time I've managed to see it, I've probably passed the 50km village limit and halfway to the next. HUDs are OK, but slower to respond when there's a poor GPS signal and useless in tunnels. Mind you, that's the only time I can actually see the darn thing. It's high time Fiat et-al put a speedo option on the multi readout display, with option of km or mph. It's big, it's bright and should be easy for them to do in software fix. I asked them several years back, apparently it can't be done!!! Absolute Rubbish. Cheers Max
