It’s a start - so well done Rotherham. If you want an Aire write in and ask - there’s plenty of space.

Since 1989 I’ve regularly contacted SHEFFIELD City Council on the subject of campsites and aires but to no avail. They have the perfect area alongside the canal adjacent to Tinsley Marina. This is about a mile from M1 J34 with the Tram running close by - 10 minutes into the city centre by tram & 5 minutes to Meadowhell. Sheffield Arena is almost opposite followed by Ice SHEFFIELD and the English Institute of Sport. Plenty of restaurants. A perfect spot with walks along both the canal and the river Don.

Yes that’s what I thought and quite a few extras, but I’ve booked on for the first couple of nights just to encourage them! There’s every chance it will not be ready in time but as it’s only a mile or so from where I live it won’t be a disaster. I’m expecting a refund because not everything will work. I would have been happier if they had allowed one of the clubs to run it - we shall see.

Re: European holiday

Vicki:

At this time of year you'll find that snow tyres and/or snow chains are compulsory on the route you are planning.

I assume that being a 7 berth your motorhome will be plated at at +3.5t.  You'll need a GoBox for Austria if planning on using any motorways.  Not sure about Slovenia but best to check.

Also the best route in Germany.

Our ADAC+ membership is up at end of February, but I received a renewal
notice a few days ago.

Due to impending Brexit/No Brexit I was concerned about renewing.

Today I telephoned 00 49 941 55673‬ (tried a couple of other previously but
no longer available) and spoke to a lovely lady who spoke English

I queried whether we would still be covered if we leave the EU and she
confirmed YES, and so I have again renewed.

As to repatriation, should it be needed, we would be covered providing
motorhome is 10m x 3m high.... due to transporter sizes I gathered.

Hope that helps...

Re: Searching.6 / EU Changes

David Scholes

Actually I do not believe that I said that Brexit wouldn’t happen though I did suggest that little would change.
What I actually did was to repeat what I had seen in the local newspaper down here in Portugal which said that as far as they were concerned, nothing would change and that the English visitors would continue to be most welcome whatever happened.

As far as international driving licences go, I got one and now doubt if they have any value at all.
The main post office in Manchester who issued mine only had the one variety (1 year). It is simply a basic translation of my own licence into a few other languages including Japanese or the like. It seems like a rather cynical method for the AA to grab a bit more money.
Not having had any need to produce it I have little authority to say that but so far that is my opinion.

Weather down here a whole heap better than in the UK. Well done to those back home for surviving it.

I actually agree, Trevor. Information on here is OK but political statements are not. Practical info about getting an IDP is OK but straying any further might not be.

There is a fine line but I hope that posters in their wisdom will keep to the right side of that line.

Good luck with that then!
