JOHN,

#DisbandNATO is live!

On May 7 we are taking action against the War in Ukraine and NATO Expansion. We are demanding that US leaders disband NATO to end the war and stop increasing our cost of gas and food.

Join our National Action Planning Call on Zoom at 8:30 pm ET tonight. Sign up here and then check your email for the link. Our organizers will share why we're mobilizing and how you can take action in your area.

WHO: The People's Party alongside our anti-war allies at Codepink and Peace Action, who will have some of their own actions and demands

WHAT: Honk and waves, flyering, banner drops, marches, car caravans, tabling, actions at your member of Congress' home and district office

WHERE: Nationwide

WHEN: May 7

HOST or SIGN UP: https://bit.ly/disbandnato

TOOLKIT: read the action toolkit for ways to take action, sign making materials, an action check list, and promo flyers.

PLANNING: Reply to this email with your phone number for help planning local actions and getting them on the map. One of our action organizers will call you to go over action options and share best practices.

WHY: The war in Ukraine is devastating the country and increasing our gas and food prices. Our government is sending billions in weapons and aid to Ukraine while millions can't afford health care, housing, and food in this country. We are tired of fighting and paying for some rich politician's war against poor people on the other side of the world.

Read our statement against the War in Ukraine and NATO expansion.

When the Cold War ended in 1991, the Warsaw Pact disbanded and US leaders promised that NATO would not expand towards Russia. Since then NATO has inducted 14 new countries in Eastern Europe, doubling in size and moving right up to Russia's border. NATO's efforts to induct Ukraine triggered Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The US has also used NATO to wage regime change wars in Iraq, Libya, and other countries that have killed hundreds of thousands of people. Now it's brought us to the brink of nuclear war with Russia. Disband NATO, end the damn wars, and spend those trillions of dollars on jobs, health care and housing people in America.

Add your name here to send a letter to Biden and your member of Congress demanding an end to NATO and the war in Ukraine.

Geez John!

So if we had opposed the Vietnam War because Russia was aiding the Vietnamese by sending them weapons we were Pro Russia?

If we Oppose the US bombing Iran we're Pro Islamic Republic and pro-Religious Council  of the islamic Revolution.

Does that mean if we oppose the Democrats we're supporting the Republicns/

H\ow mindnumbingly simplistic that is.

The issue at hand is Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Putin would like you to focus on NATO, not the real issue. How mind-numbingly simple is that Dave? Here is a proposal for you. Disband all of the military organizations on the planet Now! Starting with those occupying other countries' territory, and transferring their military assets to the occupied countries until the aggressors' military is disbanded, then progressively disbanding countries one at a time on a scale based on a scientific assessment of their aggressive behavior. Would you support this utopian solution? Or would you rather support disarming Ukraine?

If one believes as I do that sending $20 billion in arms to ukraine will just increase and prolong the slaughter, ending where it is now with some kind of negotiated solution -- particularly now that Lloyd Austin has let the truth out, the the us wants to drag out this conclict to "weaken Russia so it can't do something like this again," ;not to end the war --- then an offer to disband NATO if Russia calls of further fighting and agrees to negotiate with ukrain, makes a great deal of sense. NATO has become a prop for global Us imperialism, and it should be disbanded for a whole raft of reasons. it has become a US excuse for interventions all over the world, as far from Europe as Afghanistan for gods' sake!  If offering to disband that Cold War relic can end this totally avoidable war we're now stuck with I'm all for it.  We on the left got lazy and didn't raise a fuss when NATO was used in libya, in iraq, in Afghanistn and in Syria, and we're paying the price for that slovenly and stupid mistake.

Dave Lindorf's posts are useful. They remind us of how the "peace and justice" crowd have gone full circle and have ended up not that very different from the far right. He pretends that a "negotiated solution" is the answer to ending the slaughter in Ukraine. Putin has made very clear that he intends to conquer a huge chunk of Ukraine. I just got the following from a comrade in Lviv: "New Russia backed "administration" of Kherson oblast says, that they will start to use rubles instead of hryvnas from the May 1. Gossips says, that pupils of Mariupol (there are only 2 schools working in Mariupol now) already sign their workbooks like "Mariupol, Rostov Oblast". There are gossips, that Khersond and maybe partially Zaporizhzha Oblast will "join" Russia as a new "Azov Oblast" of Russia." In other words, Putin is establishing another bantustan-like "republic" there. I cannot see how this will not end up with wholesale population transfer of settlers from Russia into these fake republics - something similar to what Israel is doing in the West Bank, except on a larger and even more brutal scale.

As for negotiations: What is there to negotiate? Putin is intent on taking over Ukraine. All the nice talk will not stop him. He has made it very clear that only military defeat will stop him. How about support for the determination of Ukrainian people to fight against this vicious, criminal invasion? That seems to have gone out the window. How is his approach any different from the following statement:

"It doesn't make sense that Russia and Ukraine aren't sitting down and working out some kind of an agreement. If they don't do it soon, there will be nothing left but death, destruction, and carnage. This is a war that never should have happened, but it did. The solution can never be as good as it would have been before the shooting started, but there is a solution, and it should be figured out now—not later—when everyone will be DEAD!"

Know who said that? The Putin supporting Donald Trump!
