This is a very fine book about Marx and Marx's Capital. It is witty and well-written, funny but serious. Best of all, it is written for a general reader, although Marx scholars will enjoy it as well. Andy Merrifield is that great
rarity--an independent scholar and author. I recommend this book highly. Here is what David Harvey says about it:
“This enchanting portrait
of Marx at work, with his legendary overcoat and shuffling ways, is brilliant, informative, and beautifully written. Merrifield then puts the insights he derives from reconnecting with Marx’s writing to work to illuminate everything from the writings of Gogol
and Dickens to the architectural disaster of New York’s Hudson Yards.”
