Multi-sounds

Thanks, Antonio. That's very helpful.

You were born too late - the original literature could have done with
your input!

Take care.

Hi,

The section about editing sounds on the 03/RW begins about page 30? of the manual.

Like other Korg synths, rather than having 'user' and 'system' patches, the synth has a number of presets (A00 to A99) that you can edit at will and you can restore from ROM if you want the originals back (GLOBAL, page 5). As I understand it, the 03/RW also has patches for the 128 General MIDI positions, and those cannot be changed(?).

I don't know that there is a way to reset a single program to the basics. There is a way to reset the unit, and then all of A00 to A99 will become 'InitProg', which is what we're talking about, but that's a bit drastic. Probably the best alternative is to select any program, edit all parameters to '0' or the like, and then you have your single InitPrg.

If you press PROGRAM, select a patch, say, A21, then go into EDIT, you'll be able to see/change the multisound(s) it uses under OSC1 and/or OSC2. The multisounds are named A000 to A254, I think. There is no relation between these Annn numbers and the Ann numbers of the programs. The reason they look similar is that Korg uses A/B/C/D to refer to 'banks', usually A/B are internal and C/D are external, so for instance if you insert a PCM card you'll get new Cnnn multisounds and probably new Cnn and Dnn? programs.

(The 03/RW doesn't have a B bank, rather a G bank for General MIDI.)

Hallo, Antonio, and thanks for this.
It is much clearer/more specific than any statement I can find in the
guides.
It has sent me back to them, and I find eg 1. Program Mode 2 Edit
Program Mode4 Combination Mode 5 Edit Combination Mode - but they all
seem to point to the two primary banks I mentioned before.
I can't see where I get to a place where I can directly select a
MultiSound. Or maybe to put it another way: how do I start from nothing,
not editing something already there ?

Hallo, all

This is a very basic question about the 03R/W. I don't know if it has an
exact parallel re the 01.

I have always been aware of and used two banks: the A list, Preset
Programs, and the G list, GM Program List.

The printed Owner's Manual features very prominently on the back the
names of a bank of 254 sounds, which is headed Multi Sound Name. It
includes quite a wodge of single percussion sounds, but also more than a
single bank's worth of pitched sounds.

I can't find any reference to Multisound(s) elsewhere in the Manual.
There is a chapter on Multi mode, but that is more about using multiple
tracks/channels.

In the little green Quick Guide, there are a couple of references to
Multisounds, as if the reader should already know what they are, but no
introduction of the term.

Were the Multi-Sounds on one of the Prog Cards ?
