O1W Pro X died

vvegaiii #105 Keyboard just died: display faded and sound stopped. I powered down and up again, and nothing--just the display lit for a moment and faded. Any ideas? I just bought it about a month ago and am ready to take it back unless a possible repair is inexpensive... Any ideas? Thanks, Vlad O1W/FD, 01W Pro X

Shea Alterio <krusete@...> #108 Check the power supply before going any further. Make sure no fuses are blown. If it "faded" off it might be this. etgalaj@... #110 I had the same problem, when tried to use it after about keeping the instrument 25 years in the box. When turned on, the display was on for couple of seconds and disappeared. No sounds. I opened the synth (very difficult task, though) and replaced the battery I found. MAGIC HAPPENED! The synth was as new! Try it yourself! Massie Kitagawa #111 Same as Tom for me - except I took it in to a local authorized (at the time) repair shop. It wasn't an outrageously expensive repair and they also did some maintenance while they had it open. 10 years later and it's still chugging along! vvegaiii #112 Thanks Tom. I did change the battery because the patches wouldn't stay and that fixed that. Perhaps I'll try a brand name battery, though, since I used an old no-name one. vvegaiii #116 Well, I was mistaken in that I changed the battery on my O1/W FD and not the Pro X. The Pro X has a lot more screws on the bottom. Would anyone have pictures of the screws that need to come off the Pro X for a battery change? I found a written description, but it's not clear, and I couldn't find any videos. I don't want to let loose something inside that I can't get back in place when reassembling. Gratefully, Vlad

Antonio #117 The pro X is said to be much easier to disassemble than the regular 01/W, mostly because if I'm not mistaken a lot can be done by detaching the rear. The thing is, I know nothing about it, but I strongly suggest you don't try to open it without consulting some reference. On another note, the problem you mention doesn't seem, to me, to have anything at all to do with the battery. An empty battery simply results in the presets being lost with power off, and then when you power it on every combi is 'Init Combi' and every program is 'Init Prog' (and you only have to load them from ROM to restore them). In chapter 6 of the manual you will see that there are 5 different kinds of screws. You have to be careful and remember which screw goes where. To open 01W ProX you better read and follow 01WProX_SERVICE_Manual. It’s much more complicated than you can see on YouTube KORG 01/W Pro Battery Replacement.

In chapter 6 of the manual you will see that there are 5 different kinds of screws. You have to be careful and remember which screw goes where. I used five envelopes and after removing screws I put them in envelopes marked “a”, “b”, “c”, “d” and “e”.
