The Warminster Club is again holding their auction online.  This year anyone from a local Philly radio club can bid on items (not a member only auction) but you must be local for pickup - Warc will not pack and ship.

There are a couple of days left to bid on items

WARC Members:
Time is running out, and there is just 1 week remaining in the auction.

The auction Ends on Tuesday, March 8th at 8:00 pm!
All proceeds go toward supporting WARC's operations and programs, and everything listed in the auction is inspected and described to the best of our abilities. There are even several items that are brand new in the box or in like-new condition like this Yaesu FTM-400 Dual-Band Fusion radio that is new in the box with warranty card and all accessories, this Bencher BY2 Iambic key, and this Radio Shack DX-394 General Coverage Receiver.
You can’t win if you don’t bid, so don’t miss this opportunity to pick up some really nice gear for a lot less than you will pay on eBay or eHam.net.
A big shout-out and thank-you to the following WARC members for their donations: Jack Sullivan – W2INF for his donation of a YAESU FT-60R Dual Band HT in like-new condition, an MFJ-849 HF/VHF/UHF Digital SWR/Wattmeter in unused condition, and an RCA antenna rotator that’s brand new in the box.  Also making a very generous donation is David Potter - KC3QQM, who donated a brand new YAESU FTM-400XDR 2M/440 Dual Band C4FM Digital/Analog Radio still in the never opened factory box!
Many thanks and good luck bidding.

Subject: PWA Swap Net on Zoom - Tuesday at 7:30 pm

To all Hams in the Delaware Valley,

The Zoom "Swap Net" is scheduled to begin at 7:30 pm on the fourth Tuesday of the month.  This month the 4th Tuesday is this week -- the PWA general meetings occur on the 4th Monday which is next week.

See the Zoom link at the bottom of this email.

Look on the PWA "For Sale" page.  I haven't really had time to update this in a while, but first timers are welcome to brows the page.

I ask everyone to take a full sheet of paper - 8-1/2 x 11 - and write your first name, call sign and either your email address or a phone number.  Please show it to us, when you display your equipment.  This will allow interested parties to contact you off the Zoom meeting.

I will go over the rules we have used for the PWA "on the air" Swap Net.
1;  No more than 3 items per person / per night.  There's always next month to bring up 3 more.
1a; Estates may show up to 6 items per night.
2;  No up front costs.  If your item does sell ??  then the seller will make a donation to the club.
3;  Mention the asking price and haggle on the phone.
4;  Make up a quickie email listing your items for that week.  Nothing long and drawn out.  Just the 3 items and be prepared to send it to anyone who asks...  not only people on the PWA email list.
5;  No number 5, four is enough.

Penn Wireless is on the POTA website for tomorrow starting about 10am local.
Use the Activations page and scroll down to W3SK;
https://pota.app/#/activations

For local contacts and to coordinate a rendezvous (liaison) I will have my dual band 2m/440 radio in the car on two local repeaters.  Will also have the Yaesu FM and C4FM radio on simplex -- 146.55 -- for local contacts.  Will first use the PWA club call (W3SK) and then use the operator call sign.  As I understand, Hunters can make two contacts...

See attached.

Please try to contact us tomorrow between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. You can try 2M on one of the two Simplex frequencies, you can try 20m and 40m cw, or you can try 20m and 40m phone.

Go to https://pota.app/#/ and search for our call sign, W3SK.  That will show our operating frequency.

If you see QRT, try again later later.

We will have three operators. There's a good chance you can hunt us down for 3 contacts.

Subject: POTA Activation planned for Thursday at Tyler Park K-1430

Thursday this week brings us a 60 degree forecast and good weather for activation at Tyler Park.  This will be a club activation using the Penn Wireless call sign;  W3SK.  The club's call is now listed on the POTA website; https://pota.app/#/profile/W3SK

I have also signed up to the POTA Facebook page; https://www.facebook.com/groups/parksontheair

POTA is usually a single operator event whether you're a hunter or activator.  I understand the use of multi-op's on POTA is rare and maybe club call signs are even rarer.  (will have to look that up)  Thursday morning starting about 9am, several PWA members will be out to the North parking lot at Tyler -- just North of the Upper Plantation Field -- setting up antennas and getting ready to make contacts.  https://pota.app/#/park/K-1430

This will be our first POTA activation and the first use of POTA for most of us, so please bear with us.   Use the Activation page and search for W3SK. https://pota.app/#/activations

We plan to operate on 20 and 40 meters and will have both CW and Phone operators on site.  We also plan to have a 2 meter VHF station onsite operating on 146.55 or 147.55 simplex.  Local clubs and PWA members are encouraged to look for us on the POTA website and on the 2m band.

Power will be coming from two car size batteries - one is a Duracell group 24DC.  The phone operator will be using a Xiegu G90 (20w transceiver) connected to a SGC-237 auto tuner and a 100ft wire.  (will need some type of counterpoise wire)  The CW operator will be using a FT-817 and a Wolf River.

These are a couple of "official" POTA videos on YouTube regarding Activations.  Note on the right hand side of the page is "Activators Content" parts 1 thru 4.  Any PWA member coming out to the park should watch all 4 parts.  (just makes good common sense)

Mark  WA3QVU

PS:
It looks like Pete Kobak (K0BAK) was the first to activate Tyler Park (Sept 2017) and has made an amazing number of contacts on POTA as both hunter and activator.  I've met the man at one of the local Packrat meeting here in Warminster.  This is one of the hams who during the National Parks on the Air operated from some very small places down in Philadelphia, particularly Old City Philadelphia.  Nice job Pete..!  https://pota.app/#/profile/K0BAK

No. I suppose I could register and there are parks down the street where I could operate, but I have no battery power for my rig and there's no 110V available to casual park users so far as I can tell.
