Jaws & Automatic Updating Setting
Mike B. <mb76nordic@...>
Howdy All, I have a Windows 7 Pro computer running Jaws 16 thru J2019 latest at our other house that I put to sleep when we leave, and also it's set to wake up, reboot and go back to sleep through the Task Scheduler at set times / days. I've never used the, Install updates automatically recommended setting, for Windows updates and I need to know, if I select thisoption will this setting make the computer restart automatically if required to finish updating? I've looked throughout the dialogues but, I can't find anything about restarting the computer after the updates are installed. I know I could Google this question but, I would like to get 1st hand experience answers from people that actually use the, Install updates automatically recommended, setting, and what I mean by 1st hand, is people that I know I can trust from our blind community help lists', not the non stop rederick I can find doing a search. All help will be greatly appreciated and graciously accepted. Thank you all very much for any and all input. Take care. Go Rams! Sent from my iBarstool. I type out everything I want to remember. That way instead of spending a lot of time trying to remember what it was, I spend the time looking for where I saved it! |

I recommend that you turn off automatic updates during the time you're
gone. No point in having complications that might hang up your computer.

Hi Dave,
Yes I currently have it set to, Download
updates but let me choose whether to install them, but due to things that
have happened we haven't been able to get down to that house as regularly as we
used to, and when we can't get down there getting the updates downloaded and
installed can turn into a major P I A! LOL LOL So, I was
considering experimenting with the automatic setting to see how it would
do. My antivirus / malware scans run great and on time and I was hoping
the updating would as well. It sounds like I should leave well enough
alone and just spend the time doing the important updates the way I've always
done them rather than create more problems. Thank you very much for your
input.
Take care. Go Rams! Sent from my iBarstool. I type out everything I want to remember. That way instead of spending a lot of time trying to remember what it was, I spend the time looking for where I saved it! ----- Original Message -----

Mike, I am curious as to why you go to this extent to get
the updates. We went to Arizona for six months of the year for 12 years and when
we migrated, I just simply turned the desktops off until we returned. When
re-starting them, Windows would take a look, see what updates were needed and do
it’s thing. This way if there were any hang-ups, I was there to get them
straightened out.
Personally I thought this safer all
around.

Hi Marie,
I'm not going to any
extent per say just experimenting because I've been getting error messages when
installing, or I should say, attempting to install updates if we haven't been
there for a couple of months or more. On the other hand leaving the
computer in sleep mode and having it run 1 day out of the week and rebooting has
helped tremendously.
Take care. Go Rams! Sent from my iBarstool. I type out everything I want to remember. That way instead of spending a lot of time trying to remember what it was, I spend the time looking for where I saved it! ----- Original Message -----
