Hi okay I still have my Jaws 2018 on my system.

As well as the latest version of Jaws.

now I went to use the OCR future in Jaws 2019 and of course as Jaws
always seems to do it says the OCR feature is not installed.

So I unloaded 2019 meaning i just shut it down and not uninstalled it.

Then I loaded my 2018.

And guess what the OCR feature works fone.

So then how to make the feature to work in 2019 as well?

You would think that that this feature should work all the time and not
just when it wants to.

Or should I uninstall my 2018 and then how then would I go about making
the OCR feature work in 2019?

A while ago I got information from someone about how to get the messages in a digest rather than as they come. Apparently it seems anyhow that I was deleted from the list rather than putting into the digest mode. If you get this message, respond back so I know that this did not go into the electron a circular file.

Hello Ericka, you came through if you get in digest mode you will only receive messages only once or maybe twice daily.

If you want to receive all messages as they are sent stay on the single message profile. HTH.

The same thing happens to me. Even when I choose the recognize with Jaws it says no OCR installed. But if I unload jaws 19 and load draws 18 the OCR works perfectly. Any suggestions for a permanent fix?

Re: Jaws Not Recognizing Check Boxes in Excel

I have not worked with Excel files containing checkboxes, and likely many others haven’t, which  is why you may not be getting responses.  I see in the JAWS verbosity settings for Excel that you can indicate if objects should be announced.  I don’t have a spreadsheet that contains objects for me to test, but this is probably one item to be sure  is checked.  Then, I wonder if you could use an application key menu to mark the checkbox once you find it.

If you have a file you can share, I’d be happy to look at it.  My email address is below:

Hi everyone,

I asked this question a week or so ago but did not get any responses. I will ask again as it is a problem I would like to overcome.

While navigating around an excel file jaws will not recognize check boxes embedded in the file. Jaws will say that the cell is blank when there is a clickable check box in that cell. Does anybody know how to get Jaws to tell me that there is a check box in a certain cell?

Is there a way to list the embedded objects in a cell?

Thanks,

How to stop JAWS from saying "List of..." "List end "

Adrian Spratt

I put “list” in the JAWS settings search box, but I find the five options that appear confusing. I’m not talking about list boxes. I want JAWS to stop telling me a list of so many items is about to start and when that list ends.

Any ideas?

jaws auto on after reboot

sandy

I’m pretty sure this has been asked before, but how do I set jaws to start up automatically after my laptop is rebooted? jaws 18, win 10

I've lost the JAWS menus

Adrian Spratt

When I press insert-j or click on the JAWS item in the system tray, JAWS stops speaking. I try to go to the JAWS menu with Narrator, but of course, it doesn’t find it. I know what I did to cause this to happen, and I hope someone has an idea how to fix it.

I did a JAWS repair this  morning. When it finished and I rebooted, JAWS came up with the Eloquence synthesizer. My choice of synthesizer is Dectalk Express, so I went into the synthesizer manager and set it up. However, I made the mistake of assigning it to com1, when it was recently changed to com5. As a result, Dectalk won’t speak. That would be easily fixable if I could go back into the JAWS menus, but as I say, I can’t.

This is the latest release of JAWS 2019. Dectalk and the JAWS menus are working fine in JAWS 2018, which I didn’t repair.

I’ve searched for ways of getting at Dectalk to set the com port independently of JAWs, but in vain. Dectalk doesn’t show up anywhere in my system as an independent program.

Yes, I’ve rebooted to see if it would bring back the JAWS menus in 2019, but no such luck.

Any ideas how to restore the JAWS menus when they disappear like this?

Jaws Reading Item Number in List View

Rick Justice <ricjustice@...>

To stop Jaws from reading the number of an item while arrowing thru a list,
Go to the Jaws settings center, then speech verbosity, then configuration.
In the list of items, (number 17) position information, uncheck the box, and
save your settings on the way out.
Jaws will still announce the location of the item when using the say-all
command.
This worked for me in Jaws 2019.

HTH,

I’m pretty sure this has been asked before, but how do I set jaws to start up automatically after my laptop is rebooted? jaws 18, win 10

Hi, Adrian,

I just did it, and will try to figure out how.

1. Settings center.
2. Insert+shift+d (default all applications)
3. web/html/pdf's.
4. reading (closed)
5. Open reading; configure web verbosity levels (closed).
6. that's where the sucker is hiding!!!
